How to connect external 3G HELP!!

::o
Hi there all!!

Now, please be kind, I am NOT good at these things!!!

Have just bought a tablet that supports external 3G

Unfortunately, the instruction manual doesn't mention this, and we have no idea how to connect to this :eek:

I have a mobile ( vodafone ) dongle, that I use with my laptop when we are away.

I would be really grateful if there is some very kind bod who could guide me through this, ( in idiot speak preferably lol !! )

Many thanks in advance!!:o

    Can't help, but others who can will need to know the make and model of your device.
    That gum you like is coming back in style.

    What make and model is the tablet? Is your Vodafone dongle a USB one?

    Try plugging the Vodafone USB modem in to the Tablet. It's usual for the generic tablet to be compatible with Huawei modems(probably the brand of modem that you have).
    Do you have the model number of the modem?

    Hi!

    Many thanks for your reply.

    ( Please see above post for additional info )

    We have connected the vodafone USB dongle.
    Gone to settings, searched for available networks, ticked vodafone prepay .
    It did come up with connect to vodafone UK, but every time we try to click on this it starts searching, then comes up with error connecting to network
    ( Been trying since 10 a.m !)
    As I say, we are both complete 'numpties' when it comes to this type of thing !!:o

    Oh, & I think the dongle model No is : K3565

    It may be the 'APN' needs setting up

    An APN details will be something like
    APN = pp.internet
    username = web
    password = web

    here is a link to a youtube vid where someone with a similar/same tablet as you have connects using a 3G usb dongle. Its not Uk but you may spot the menu settings where to add the APN details in your tablet
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ohiwi--OiMM

    Also, according to that user - wifi has to be set to OFF but I have no way of checking if that is really the case.

    You will get the APN details from this web site here
    http://www.mobilez.org/support/apns/uk/
    scroll down to the Vodafone settings that match your dongle.

    Good luck.

    Many thanks, will give it a try!

    Re: wifi - we have been switching it to off, so hopefully this is right!!
  • If you get the dongle connected and the tablet can then send texts, Vodafone can send you a text to set up the data side of things.

    you can text the word WEB to 40127 - Voda should reply with a text, you should be asked if you want to accept/install the settings they've sent and that should setup the tablet for Voda's network.

    Think that is just for mobile telephones, rather than USB modems.
