Yes, it's possible. Unlocking code costs £5 on ebay reportedly.0

The SIM only deal with Tesco can only be jusdged on your actual usage as if you use less than 100 mins 100 texts and less than 400mb data per month as Grumbler again says Ovivo give you this for nowt.
where/how can you get this phopne for £80?0 -

Hi sorry if I confused anyone, told you I was rubbish at understanding all this stuff
Yep the plan was to buy the phone, around £100 then get the sim only for £7.50 per month for 12 months.
I went to speak to the guy in Tesco yesterday just for advice. Still not sure to go PAYG or the sim only
He says that PAYG the phone can eat away at you money as there is a lot going on in the background that you don't know about plus the updates so would be better sim only but they would say that wouldn't they, they want your money every month.
Still not made my mind up, I will think it over the next few days before I decide.
Thanks for all your help.
For the light use you have described, 500MB data per month should be quite adequate. Howver, once you have a smartphone you may find that you start using more data-hungry apps that you never knew existed! No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks macman and everyone else who gave me advice. I have been into Tesco today and got the galaxy ace. Going to leave it on PAYG just for this next month and just monitor it. Think I have turned all the data off but still managed to use almost £5 so far but then I have been playing around with it all afternoon finding my way around it.
Still got plenty of credit left but think it just might be worth taking the sim only for £7.50 PM0 -
If you've used a fiver worth of data in one afternoon then you clearly haven't turned data off...
If at home just connect it via your wi-fi and you pay nothing. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Regarding data usage,I'm relatively new to mobile internet so had no idea how much data I'd use a month.
Well, turns out it's not that much at all, approx 25Mb last month and the same this month with a week to go.
Maybe it's because I don't use social network sites but I go online most days and my usage is tiny.
It helps that I do any downloads like app updates, maps etc while I'm at home on wi-fi.
I think many people pay for data,minutes,texts that they don't use.0 -
Thanks macman I did turn data off but when I went to put my phone on again it was all back again. Seemed to use quite a bit benighted so don't know what I am doing wrong.
I had an icon flashing at he top, daughter says it was GPS and she has not turned that off so mabe that was it.
I have wifi on while I am a home but turn it off when I am out. I don't really use it for the Internet during the day when at home as I have my iPad which I prefer.
Only used a few pence from yesterday so mabe I have it sorted now
Many thanks for your help.0 -
