Just searched for the Panasonic SD255 on MSE as so many seemed to use panasonic.

Some people in the threads are saying they don't use them anymore because the ingredients are so expensive now.

Strong white flour at aroung 50p for 1.5 kg. That makes 3 medium loaves at around 50p each once you have added yeast etc. And the bread is better than anything you can buy. Can't think why anyone would abandon making bread in a Panasonic due to cost!

I have the older version of that one, and use it several times a week (I bake bread by hand at the weekend, too ;) ). Yes, the ingredients have gone up in price, but so as shop bread

I'll add this to the thread Breadmaker - convince me, though it seems like you don't need much convincing :D

    Thank you:beer:

Why do you bake by hand at the weekend if you have a breadmaker?
    Is hand baked better?

You can make 4 loaves in less time than it takes to make one in a bread maker;) See here.

I make hand-made bread because I love to cook :D If you have time to make bread, kneading bread dough by hand is very relaxing. Having said that, bread takes a long time to make well, but as most of that is allowing the dough to rise, the amount of time you spend actively doing anything is small IYSWIM :D

Take a look at some of my creations in this thread - you can't do them in a BM ;)

I work part-time so find a BM is great to make fresh loaves for sandwiches and toast during the week, when I don't have time to make fresh bread by hand. thriftlady and I agree to differ on this :p I'd rather have fresh bread from a BM, than defrosted bread I made earlier in the week.

Hand made all the way. An infintely better loaf than a machines effort. IMO of course......

Got my Panasonic SD254 just after Christmas and I havent bought bread since! I love it and the bread is so yummy, I make the 50/50. Make 1 loaf a day which is just right for me and my DD for toast and sandwiches.
Would object to buying shop bought bread now
