Nexus 4 is way better than G300. Nexus 4 is high end phone, it is good value when you compare to phone with similar spec. But the downside is it don't have micro sd slot, and it always out of stock at google play.0

Good advice above, the Phones4u offer would cost you £504 over 2 years (more if you went over the allowances).
As mentioned an equally capable phone like the G300 with an unlock code from Ebay = around £100. Virgin or Giffgaff do payg sims with plenty of minutes/texts/data for around £10 a month so £240 over 2 years.
£340 for a decent phone and probably all the calls/data you will need, a lot better than £504 for the Samsung.
...and the biggy, no tie in on payg, you can switch any time a better deal comes along or sell the phone and change it if you fancy.
With a contract your stuck. You see daily whinge posts on here about contracts for 'how can I wiggle out my contract?' its too expensive, don't like my phone, no signal in my new area..... and so on.0 -
Mins wise I think 100 should be okay for now.
Nexus 4 does look good but is quite expensive. Then again if its really that much better than the Huawei Ascend G300 then maybe its worth the stretch?
I've tried 3 codes for Isme and all of them were rejected even though I've been accepted into the credit option (
39MEP is a new one for £25 off over £50 new 1st credit order. EDIT on the Very version of site not Isme, Very usually has more codes..0 -

Try 3933J-that's the one I was handed in WHS the other day for Isme.
Very happy with the G300 once unlocked from Voda and upgraded to JB.No free lunch, and no free laptop

The question is not about if you can get nexus 4 for £100, it is about if you can justify to spend extra £140 on top of £100.
For example, I use my phone with internet a lot and I just can't stand for slow phone.
Nexus 4 with quad core processor, 2GB RAM and it support DC-HSDPA 42 Mbps, which is comparable to 4G. And three already say they won't charge extra for that.
While for G300 with only Cortex-A5, 512MB RAM and support HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
Spec wise, they are basically on different planet. If you just use your phone for call, text and occasional internet. Then, nexus 4 is not what you need.0 -

This is all common knowledge, but looking at the * op's * opening post they are moving onto a smartphone from old style, they only want some internet access, probably the odd browse, google something now and then and email. For which the Nexus is overkill and the G300 (or others similiar) can do perfectly.
Personally I would like Huawei Quad D but I can't afford that so more powerful or not its not really relevant either... maybe one day....

I agree the Nexus is a good phone without doubt ....but how much is it to buy outright ?
Bearing in mind the OP has an antiquated old Nokia I feel the jump up to a full blown all singing dancing bit of kit is going to be hard to justify.
The OP says they don't want loads of data so would assume occasional userIt's not just about the money0 -
