Can you get PIP for Irritable Bowl Syndrome?

I just got a letter saying I will need to apply for PIP in the next few months as I am currently on DLA, lower and middle rate.

One of the reasons I get it is for IBS and I am just wondering whether or not I will be able to get PIP for IBS Irritable Bowl Syndrome? Does anyone know?

I was also wondering what sort of medical evidence/reports I could get for Irritable Bowl Syndrome for PIP, if PIP will allow claims for IBS that is?

Can anyone recommend other organisations or specialists I can ask my doctor to maybe refer me to or any private specialists you maybe know of who in relation to my IBS who can provide more in depth evidence and medical reports about IBS and how my IBS personally effects me?
Any help will be appreciated.

I have never known any one get DLA for IBS.

I know it affects different people in different ways, but I you must have it really bad to be classed as disabled.

I am surprised you have been asked to apply for PIP already. According to the DWP people already on DLA are not going over until 2015.

Where in the county do you live ?

DLA is for care and mobility.

It is likely that the DLA claim is coming the end of an award and a new claim has to be made, in which case many people will have to apply for PIP from April (dependant upon location).

For the second time today I will copy and paste the information on DWP website.

    When will PIP be introduced

    New claims

April 2013 – Personal Independence Payment will be introduced for new claims in Merseyside, North West England, Cumbria, Cheshire and North East England. During this period new claimants in all other parts of the country will continue to claim Disability Living Allowance as now.
June 2013 – new claims for Personal Independence Payment will be taken from all parts of the country.
    Existing DLA claimants

Existing Disability Living Allowance claimants who are aged 16 to 64 on 8 April 2013 or reach age 16 after that date will be affected by the introduction of Personal Independence Payment, even if they have an indefinite or lifetime award of DLA.

We will write to all existing DLA claimants in February and March 2013 with more information about PIP in their usual annual letters that tell them what their new benefit rate will be.

    Example DLA uprating letter (34KB)
Personal Independence Payment is being introduced in stages over a number of years.

October 2013 – if an individual reports a change in how a health condition or disability affects them, they reach the end of an existing award of DLA (and haven’t already received a DLA renewal letter), or they are approaching the age of 16, then we will invite them to claim Personal Independence Payment.
From 2015 – we will start to contact everyone else receiving DLA (unless they report a change in how their health condition or disability affects them, or if their award is due to end). We will write to individuals in plenty of time and they do not need to contact DWP now.
There is no automatic transfer from Disability Living Allowance to Personal Independence Payment.

Which is why I asked where the OP lived.

    Not correct.

Only those making brand new claims will be expected to claim PIP from 8th April.

Those existing DLA claimants whose assessment period for DLA*** commences on or after 7th October 2013 will have to claim PIP

Those who have indefinate awards will be randomly selected for re-assessment from October 2015.

NOTE: *** the assessment period begins 20 weeks before the end date of the existing award.

That means anyone whose existing claim has an end date of 23rd February 2014 (7th October + 20 weeks) or earlier will be able to re-claim DLA, but will have the option if they wish, to volunteer to claim PIP.

Anyone with an existing claim, whose end date is 24th February 2014 or later will be reassessed for PIP.

OP, you don't get DLA or PIP for specific diagnosis, if you have care needs or mobility problems or both, you may qualify for the benefit.

Also, are you sure your letter says you have to apply for PIP or does it say you may choose to apply to be reassessed for PIP rather than applying for DLA again.

The Op may have read her letter incorrectly.

My son has just received his entitlement letter. Pages 1-5 are about his DLA, pages 6-8 are about PIP.

The pages about PIP begin with-

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION- please read carefully

A new benefit called Personal Independence Payment will begin to replace Disability Living Allowance for disabled people aged 16 to 64 from 8 April 2013.

I assumed the OP did live on one of the areas mentioned, and otherwise would be unaffected.

As you like to point out constantly, on all your other posts, we need facts, not assumptions.

That is why I wrote that it is 'likely', not a 'certainty'. If I had claimed that the OP did live in one of the pilot areas, that 'fact' would be debatable.
