Flight delay compensation, all other non-EU airlines

  • My wife and I recently flew with Emirates. The flight started in Manchester and it had a scheduled stop in Dubai where we had to change to another Emirates flight to Sydney. This flight from Dubai to Sydney was initially delayed with us all strapped in ready to go due to a technical fault for about one and half hours whereupon the fault was rectified. However due to the delay the flight was then cancelled because it had lost it's slot to land at Sydney Airport due to the night curfew at Sydney.
    Re the EU Flight information mentioned in the guidance I'm unclear whether it applies to us and would we be entitled to flight delay compensation under EU Rules? Does it include our circumstances?
    Thank you.:)

    This question has been answered lots of times before. Search for "emirates" and "connecting" for example and you get lots of relevant hits. Here's one:

    From what you state your flight leaving the UK was on time and the delay was only on the non-EU departure, is that correct?

    Please let's not have this debate again! :wall:

    Centipede and DTDfanboy have exchanged extensive correspondence on the issue, and it can be all searched for. Here's one thread to give you a flavour:

    Emirates will say that it does not apply to the Dubai - Sydney flight and I would agree with them.

    My thoughts exactly we flew from Manchester to Chicago and then onto Tampa in the summer. 4 hour delay in Chicago with American Airlines on a BA share code flight.

    We never put a claim in (even looked to see if there was anything similar to this in the US)

    There isn't
    Private Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA :D
  • Hi,

    Having claimed for our flight back in 2009 for 4 hour delay (indirect route from London, Newark,Orlando), I received no reply. I complained to the CAA who have written to United but I have heard nothing.

    I was advised to wait 12 weeks and have contacted the CAA but they have told me to contact the airline which is not massively helpful. I have contacted United but have not heard back.

    Has anyone any advice please?, I am at a loss as what to do next.

    Thankyou:beer::beer:

    Was the delay at EWR or MCO?
    Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Hello,

    Delayed by 1 hour before takeoff at London and then delayed 4 hours at Newark. We eventually arrived just over 4hours late as the pilot was able to catch up some time in flight.

    The flight arrived at MCO at 11.30 rather than 7.10 as planned which led to all sorts of chaos as there was no-one to help us apart from the Car Hire firms.

    Thanks:rotfl::rotfl:
