Hi, my flight left Heathrow 35mins late, landed in Singapore 28 mins late and missed the connecting flight. There was 1 hour scheduled between the connection, but were denied boarding even though the other flight was still at the gate, they are blaming Heathrow ATC. Is this fair? It was book as one ticket to NZ, got there 16 hours late.
Looking through the last 2 weeks, it seems pretty normal for the flight to leave 20-30 mins after the scheduled departure time.
No, not really.
The main problem here is with the one hour connection time. On a long haul flight that is just not enough time.
Delays, into and out of all busy airports, are inherent in the operation any airline, it happens on a very regular basis at all major worldwide airports and cannot be classed as an extraordinary circumstance.
However, if the airline is happy to sell you a through ticket with only a one hour connection time, they should pay you compensation if they then delay you.
Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -

Thanks for the reply.
are Singapore Airlines signed up to any ombudsman?
No, they are not on the CAA list yet.

Is there a way to see the flight departure times from an airport on a particular day, signed up to flight stats but can't see it on there. Perhaps might show that all flights were running 30 mins late that day.0

An airline won't sell connecting flights unless the connection time is 'legal', but that doesn't mean its the best idea in the world to book it. It depends how risk averse you are. To make a flight that just has the MCT is doable, providing everything goes exactly to plan. They leave no room for delays, hold ups dèplaning etc.
It makes no difference if the aircraft is still at the gate. Once the gate has closed it's too late to board.
If your flight was held by ATC it doesn't necessarily mean other departures would be affected.0 -

I think it's all there, under 'historic' and then 'airport' iirc.

Hi! We booked a through flight from London to Prince Edward Island with Air Canada. A 4 hour delay out of Heathrow meant that we missed the last connecting flight meaning we had to stay overnight in Halifax - arriving at our destination some 13 hours late. Air Canada have offered 300 Euro comp as they say we landed in Canada within the 4 hour window. Should I accept their offer or escalate my claim?0

No. Compensation is based at your final destination so you are due €600 per passenger. google and download Vaubans Guide and follow the advice. Did they provide the hotel free and did they give you vouchers for food if not and you have the receipts claim that back as well.0

Thank you. I'll do that now.... Yes they did provide a rather shabby hotel (Quality Inn) & a voucher for food - can't remember how much but deffo provided.0

Good luck.
With regard to a 20-30min delay in departure, its difficult as a member of the public to know whether it was just the plane not being ready or ATC delaying them. Its comes down to when they called for a slot..0
