I went for an MRI Scan today and couldn't do it!

  • I had one of these a few weeks ago and all I can say is NEVER again. I wasn't prepared for what I had to do and only just managed to hold it all together. The closest thing I can liken it to is lying in a coffin whilst someone nails the lid on (obviously in my imagination). Has to rank as one of the most traumatic experiences of my life.

Personally, I find the scan is as nothing compared to getting a letter which you were expecting to say "Nothing to see, move along" which actually says "We've made you an appointment to see your consultant in two months time."

Not sure whether to convince myself that they've forgotten they've agreed not to call me in if there's nothing to say, or to prepare myself for being told it's growing again when they thought it was dormant before they took it out, or phone and ask! :rotfl:

Well done Catz! :T My dd is waiting for her appointment for a MRI scan ( she has hemiplegic migraine so it will be on her head) and is (as I would be) a mite worried about what it entails. Now I can warn her about the noise etc., her Dad is training as a hynotherapist so I think we may well use his skills! ;)
I too suffer from hemiplegic migrain. Also got to go for an M R I scan. I really sympathise with your DD.

  • well its me back again hanging my head in shame, I could not go through with it, I was fine when I went in and the nurse said I would not have to go right in to the scanner as it was for my knees. Prob is I am only 5' 0" tall and for the scanner to scan my knees I had to be right in to it. I nearly had a kitten and made them take me out I feel such a wally now, though I cried all afternoon after it and I got myself really stressed out over it all. I dont know what will happen now though the nurse says she will recommend that I am sedated somehow when they send for me again. I am such a wimp!!!

  • Had 3 MRI scans and its such a soothing experience. I could have fallen asleep during my 1st one.

Its not like you are leaving the ground or anything.

You said it - Wimps :)

I am a very nervous person anyway and if i could have relaxed i probably could have gone through with it, but I cant help being what I am even if it is a wimp, I do have good qualities too!!

Please be nice to all moneysavers!

We all have our own wimp areas, I'm sure. I can only go through with these things because I don't allow myself to think about it too much.

I hope that you will be able to have something sorted out minnie, but the only reason for continuing to fret about this is to work out if there's anything they could do differently to allow you go through with it.

Well i finally had my MRI Head scan this morning. It said on the letter it would take between 30 minutes to an hour. Got there at 8:30 and was given a blue gown to dress into. I had the scan done straight away. Just closed my eyes as i went into the tunnel. I had ear phones on that played the radio. I listened to 3 songs and was half way through the weather report when i was told it was all over and done. Really wasn't anything like i thought. Iwas home just after 9:15.Just wish i had known before i went. The worse part for me was having to go without any make-up on. LOL. Just waiting for the results now.
