but the moment you take the food off my table so my children don't get fed heaven help you.
One young couple have been renting the same place for 4 years and have missed a couple of payments so what! but they always ring me in advance with the truth so that I know what is going on.
It's the blatent lies, skipping tenant low life's that I can't and won't stand.
I'm sure your comments apply to some Landlords !!

My guess, FWIW is that we are moving towards stronger regulation of the private rental market.

I was interested to note that Which (weathervane of the concerns of the petit bourgoisie) is requesting info from tenants about mistreatment in the current addition.

Interesting theory there Generali. It's like Darwin's theory of Evolution - but in reverse.

Nowadays, it is only the unemployed who can afford to have children as this entitles them to a larger house and increased benefits (2nd and subsequent children become cheaper but benefits do not fall as quickly). Benefits are even higher if the parents live separately.

Working couples cannot afford to lose a wage, so delay/avoid having children. This can lead to marriage break-ups and two houses are needed to house the separate parties (party, where's the party?).

Then we blame BTL LLs because there are not enough houses for FTBers to buy.

    I blame the Tories.

    :)

The intrinsic problem in this counrty I believe is that ( albeit there are a few, I would love to live in one your places GG, and others among you) landlords are driven by the money, and without any desire to perovide good quality housing for tenants- it a gravy train for money-making for so many.

Many of them ( certainly a good deal that I have personally encountered, both personally & professionally) dont want to spend money on thier assets, and want thier tenants to live in pure squalor.

I agree, some people dont give a damn about cleaning- but at the end of the day as long s the property is returned in a fair condition after W&T then really its not the LLS concern hoew people live - as long as the property isnt returned in bin-like condition.

Im more than happy to pay off the mortgage off a LL, or give them thier retirment pot, or whatever you guys invest for- thats really not my concern. I simply rent as I want and affordable and flexible place to live. I signed a contract to pay X quid on X day and keep the place in reasonable condition to the letter of the law. I dont trash the place, I simply live here, as I would in my own home, if not more retricted ( allowing for dont put pictures up rules and so forth)

what gets me is that regardless of me doing every single thing Im contracted to do, LLs as a rule dont stick to thier side of the bargain. and make endeavours to actively avoid spending on even the basics to a) maintain me as a customer b) protect thier "investment"

Broken boilers, no hot water, shower doesnt work, oven doesnt work, daily queries here on mse. And whats the advice. ask the LL to dosomething. If they dont, what recourse do you have? barely any.

I do independent inventories part time part of my job is to meticulously note every last mark, scuff and o forth. I went to a property the other day where the tenants I guesstimate must be paying over 2300 a month- theres no hot water, the lights in the lounge dont work- (simple broken dimmer switch i reckon), the oven is jammed shut as someone has nailed a piece of thick wood to the side of the washer so that the door cant be opened witohut damaging something. the kitchen had a hlaf inch of mud ( no im not exxagerating) on the windowsills and the garden like something out of tarzan.

This is one of the better ones.

Im not saying everyone on here is scum landlords, but at the end of the day, like estate agency, you dont get a bad rep for nothing.

I'm proud of the way I treat people and I guess you are too.

I do not have any control overthe way other people live their lives but I don't expect to have to clean up after them. I trust people to treat me fairly.

    I know you do

but even you know that when they dont, you cant really legislate can you and these are the occupational hazards in being a housing provider.

If you dont like it, dont do it :)

    .

I do not understand why any LL's would not do the above because all this would do is cost them more money in the future.

When we were doing our last renovation we had to rent. We paid by direct debit and treated the place like our home. On moving out we had all the carpets cleaned and made sure the toilets and bathroom's were spotless.
That is why I can not understand why on the whole tenant's don't keep the places they rent clean and tidy? Perhaps it is because they have no self respect.

George I blame Gordon & Tony, If they had not made borrowing money so cheap I would not have bought so many BTL's
