However, my son is renting a house in Nottingham with 3 other students. His landlord is appalling and the house is an absolute disgrace. It is in very poor order and filthy; I was amazed that he ever agreed to take it on, but he assured me that they had looked at far worse.
Why have you not bought a property for him to rent?
If my children are lucky enough to go to Uni I will buy one to let out where they are studying, that way i will make sure that everything is safe for them and not leave them at the risk of problems from other as you put it Dodgey LL's0 -

.
So Pickles110564 with you saying
Were your parents not irresponsible because they had you when they had no money? Isn't it a bit hypocritical demanding that those who have children should only be wealthy when you yourself came from a poorer background?
No my parents have never borrowed what they could not have afforded to pay back and have given me those same morales and work hard ethics.0 -

Insulting a person direct when they can reply to a post and defend themselves is one thing, insulting somebody who is not there to defend themselves is another and bad form to boot. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Hi Pickles,
I had always intended to do so but a few things put me off. Primarily student accommodation is empty several times during the year, particularly for a long period in the summer. Due to this, I believe, university towns can be easy pickings for house burglaries and I have heard of some horror stories about some student areas at Nottingham. There is also the added burden to the "acting landlord" particularly when his primary concern should be his studies. I also reckon that my properties are better located where I can get to them quickly and keep an eye on them. After a lot of consideration I decided to give it a wide berth and I'm happy with my decision.0 -

You've got to laugh :rotfl:
I hope your children can live live in the real world, not be molly coddled, deal with the good & the bad landlords most people have to deal with.
