David,
Will the Conservatives look into giving tenants stronger rights? Currently landlords can kick tenants out after 6 months and this can be a huge upheaval for them, especially if they are moving every 6 months on a regular basis.

Having been both a tenant and a landlord in the last 7 years I have seen the argument from both sides. In my opinion tenants already have strong enough rights.0

They don't have security of tenure which means that if yuo complain then you're out on your ear.0

There should be stronger rights for landlords. Every month you wonder if the monies will be paid and what stories and lies you are going to hear.
If my tenants were to pay on time every month they can stay as long as they like why would we want the hastle of getting new ones in?0 -
Don't like the business, get out of it. No-one makes you be a landlord - whereas I have no choice but to be a tenant."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.

The wind's blownig the other way. The longer the bubble lasts the harder it's going to blow, I reckon. While increasing numbers of 'young professionals' (that tend to vote) are renting, the greater will be the pressure to give tenants more rights.
It didn't matter when only oiks rented as they don't vote so much.0 -

Then the tenants need to rent on a longer contract. The landlord has given them a contract for 6 months - why should they expect any more than that?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I am a Landlord and I think the law is just about right. Don't forget as a Landlord you own the property so why shouldn't you be able to get someone out after 6 months if you want to? Things happen in life, you might need to sell or maybe your tenant isn't paying on time or has wrecked your property. I've had fantastic tenants who have - on leaving the property - become friends, so please don't think I'm out to get tenants here. If tenants have even more rights you might as well sign your rights away as the owner of the property then. Which, of course, in the nanny state we live in will probably happen.Ruby 380

I thanked you by mistake!
At present, if you try to assert your rights as a tenant you get kicked out and often lose your deposit too. It'll change.0 -

The tories should concentrate on regulating letting agents and estate agents who are the third party in rental agreements.
This would solve a lot of problems.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
