Ocado Smart Pass
Comments
-
I got the midweek delivery pass last year.
First month £0
Second £2.99
Third £2.99
Fourth £2.99
It's been converted in to the smart pass and from April will cost £4.99 (Normal price £6.99 but I'm getting a discount).
I can't find the pricing options anywhere. It says to view them you have to log in, but when you log in it just tells you what your currently paying and you can't view the other options.0 -
That's strange because I was paying £6.99 for delivery any day of the week, then they changed me to midweek deliveries, I will start paying £2.99 p/m starting at the end of may (after the 3 months free deliveries).
Are you sure you still are on the midweek delivery option?
Check your membership details in the smart pass option in your account when you are logged in, to see if they didn't "upgrade" your membership. And if you are upgraded, be ready to have them trying to rise the price of your membership on a regular basis.0 -
I can never work out if worth it as £40 min spend per delivery
I only do ocado once every other month.
i pick cheapest or free late night delivery slot.
usually use discount codes.
did wonder about savings but thourght it was 10%off specific products.

With Ocado if you pay upfront to get a SmartPass which gives you 10% off specific items and free delivery according to the conditions of the pass bought.
Because you have paid upfront, you only really get free delivery if you use it a lot and can work out how much the free delivery saves you per delivery. It is possible with an annual SmartPass, to save enough to get actual free delivery in the end by saving on every delivery.
You can get free delivery from Ocado without a pass but you have to choose unpopular slots.
The price promise promises to beat Tesco. The Waitrose one to match Tesco.
With Waitrose, you get free delivery all the time but minimum order is £50 whereas at Ocado £40
You can get Waitrose stuff from Ocado that you can't necessarily get from local Waitrose and you can't get Ocado range from Waitrose.
In the end it comes down to working out what works for you.
For me, my local Waitrose in next town is quite small and doesn't have a lot of organic food whereas Ocado has lots of it. With an Ocado Smart Pass I can get 10% off organic veg boxes and that helps me.0 -
I am a big 0cado fan. A few weeks ago they sent me a voucher, telling me that they had offered other customers three months free smart pass and the voucher was for £21.
I just shop the offers, concentrating on Bogofs, meal deals and half price. Waitr0se quality takes a lot of beating. I am impressed that I very rarely get substitutions.
The big bonus to me is i am not in supermarkets being tempted by things I dont need and I can nip into a shop, pick up a basket and just pick up a few fresh things that I actually need. I really have saved money even though I am paying £6.99 per month for delivery.
My shops are usually £40 to £60 per week.0 -
Just received this. Not impressed with the proposition, price or communication. Seems quite disingenuous to talk about 'loyal customers' and 'upgrades' for a 67% price hike....
We recently combined our Delivery and Saving Passes to create our new Smart Pass. As a loyal customer, we automatically upgraded you.
We're just writing to let you know that we'll be amending the Terms and Conditions of your Smart Pass membership on Tuesday 30 April 2013.
Although the special offer period of your Smart Pass has ended, we'd still like to offer you discounted membership. With the new discount, your monthly membership will change from the special offer price of £2.99 per month to £4.99 per month. That's a special discount - just for you - of £2 every month from the full price of £6.99.0 -
The Total Savings Pass used to be separate from the Delivery Pass and cost 8.99 per year, so if you have the new Smart Pass you get the 10% discount on selected brands included.
The way it is being implemented does seem haphazard, granted. I got a partial refund on the Total Savings Pass. My Delivery Pass doesn't run out until August so then I guess I'll find out what they want to charge me.
Several people who have been unhappy with the price they were offered have been able to negotiate so you may want to try that.
Ocado promises to beat Tesco and IME it does. I saved £16 this week0 -
As far as I know, £6.99 is for ordering any day of the week.
The £2.99 membership is for a midweek membership, where you only can order on tues-weds-thurs.
So, if rjc54n has a full week membership for 4.99, it's not too bad.
I am glad that now at least they are telling people how much they will pay after the "upgrade". Something I did suggest they do when I called them to "negotiate" my membership fees earlier this year, after receiving the email telling me that they were upgrading my membership. When I got the email I wasn't told whether my fees would be changing or not, and other people were complaining about this as well at the time.0 -
Hi thread resurrection here..but..
This may help some people....
Having been converted to using ocado for the online shopping, and having noticed the slowly increasing delivery charges, I tried a small experiment...
We decided to register again with them under a new email address, and noticed the delivery charge under the old account of £5.99 suddenly become £0.99 for the same shopping, same day, same time... Just a different account...
After a long call with customer services they confirmed this was their policy to charge different amounts depending on account...
They tried to sell us a smart pass at £110 but that would take two deliveries a week to break even.. And we do not eat that much...
So my tip is to get ready to set up a new account every four or five deliveries... Or any time you can't get a £0.99 slot... Use gmail, yahoo or your favourite service provide to set up a special emails just for this purpose...
I'm sure they will twig it soon, and link the accounts by another means..so make hay while the sun shines....:jThe only place where success comes before work is the dictionary…

I paid for an Ocado Smart Pass up front, but I make sure that I do enough orders (even if only £40) to get the money back in savings on delivery charges over the year.
I assume that the system was dreamt up by Ocado to boost their income when they first started. It does seem a backside way of doing it.
I just couldn't be bothered to keep opening accounts because the name and address and the name on the card would be either mine or husband's and I'm sure supermarkets can twig why people are doing this and ban if they want.
I'm not fussed about 99p delivery and if I was I'd go back to Waitrose or use Riverford more as both do free delivery - £50 min order with Waitrose, 12.50 for Riverford.0
