Do you love your job??

I am horribly jealous of my DH because he absolutely loves his job, and has loved it for more than 20 years. He's had at least five different employers and many different colleagues in those 20 years but he still loves his job. If he has a fortnight off then he starts missing work after the first week. He's in his early 50s and has absolutely zero intention of retiring unless forced to.
I'm the complete opposite - I have rarely had a job I even enjoyed slightly. I haven't worked for about 15 years and, other than making new friends, I haven't missed working at all. I will be happy if I never, ever have to work again, but DH would be incredibly unhappy if he couldn't do his current work. I think he was incredibly lucky to fall into a job he loves, more than 20 years ago. He's a truck driver and an awful lot of them hate the work but do it because it pays quite well - he loves it and gets paid quite well - win, win

I absolutely love my job!
I was originally a teacher, and ended up working with a childrens music contest in 2003, the year before I qualified, just as a volunteer. I'm now a senior director, contracted for 2 days a week/26 weeks a year, plus 12 days a year.
A market gap emerged, and in 2004 I decided to buy about £500 of equipment and get into the kids market, along with a friend with a studio. His daughter now owns the other 49%.
I never thought at that point I'd be able to build a company with possibly the power to take on the large music companies in the next 10-15 years around a niche sector that noone had thought of doing, and newcomers are still finding it impossible to break into.
Every day is different, and every day is a new challenge.....or maybe it's just me

"I wish" would have been the answer throughout my worklife. Some I hated more than others. They were just means to an end.
I think I found having to work for my living harder because I could see so many of my own sex (I am a woman) taking long periods of time where they didnt have a job or at least only a part-time one (even some women who never had children or had finished bringing the children up either had a part-time job or no job) that it was difficult for me to "get my head round" having to constantly do a full-time job throughout and never getting any sort of break (unless you count the involuntary spells of unemployment I had).
The consolation now is that I managed to still retire at 60, whereas I am seeing a lot of women who didn't follow that traditional "male" work pattern finding that they have to work on past our retirement age until they reach their State Pension Age and maybe even longer (because they haven't got in enough pension to be able to retire on time).
So, I tell myself I'm having all that extra spare time a lot of women get in one huge great "lump sum" from 60 onwards and I think overall I managed to "get as good a deal" in the end compared to women of my own age and younger.
I was certainly jealous of those people who actually enjoyed their work - but I didnt come across that many of them and none at all in my last workplace (99% of the staff there hated the place and were trying to figure out ways to leave - preferably retire from work totally).0 -
I do like my job, but I never look forward to going there, It's the easiest job I have ever had, and I do feel that I do make a difference.0

Worked in many places that I absolutely hated, and would never go back even if they doubled my pay. I use to dread going in & would be looking for any excuse not to go in.
I currently enjoy my job and work with a decent bunch of people.0 -
I've pretty much hated every job i've ever had, and I've had a fair few.
I find Working for a living extremely depressing!
There's an endless number of things I'd rather be doing than being at work all day!
Maybe this friend just has the most boring social life in the world?
I get very depressed on Sunday evening at the thought of another week of work0 -
I would love to have a job!0

The previous job was just 1 of those where you dread having to get up for compared with the current job I just dont like getting up so early. I dont love what I'm doing now (I see it as a stop gap) but I do enjoy working with the people I do. I did love a previous job or I enjoyed it plus I worked with a great bunch of people.0

I'm a scientist and I enjoy my job. Days are very varied and there are always days that you enjoy more than others, but I work with lovely people and the work is challenging. I had maternity leave last year which was wonderful - I'd just finished my PhD and was ready for a break. But I've enjoyed coming back to work and engaging my brain again.
You spend so much of your life at work, I think it's really important to enjoy what you do.Mortgage when started: £330,995

I wouldn't say I *love* my job but I do really like it. I don't think I look forward to it though, I'm always wishing the weekend was one day longer, or I'd win the lottery!
I think what helps is having great colleagues (for the most part, there's always a few *bleeps*!) and having a job that you think is worthwhile, I work in an NHS lab so I always feel there's a point to my work and a good reason for getting it done properly -makes the time fly by.0
