I do not love my job - it is a means to an end

  • I do love my job. Of course there are good days and bad days, as with every job. But even on the bad days I wouldn't want to be doing anything else. I find my job challenging, satisfying and I get a genuine thrill out of it. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have a job that I can describe in that way.

I'm retired now but worked in one field for 30 years, then took early retirement on health grounds. I was bored after a few months though and took a job working with young homeless people with substance abuse issues. I absolutely loved it! I don't know if I would have done when I was younger but suddenly found exactly what I wish I'd done many years before. Unfortunately I only mentored for three years, again ill health put a stop to it, but it was a very happy end to my working life and I'm so grateful I had that opportunity.

I love loads of things about my job and the people i work with but that said it really is a means to an end for me. To the point where I am formulating a business plan to totally change direction-the end result should be that i will be in a job I love and still be able to pay the bills.x

I wouldn't say I love it - I really enjoy the work itself, but there are other things that get me down, mostly the lack of admin support which means I spend a lot of my time doing stuff that I shouldn't really be doing at my level. We have no reception staff so I've actually had to hang up phone calls before now to go and answer the door to the postman. I'm on the first floor as well so every time the doorbell rings I have to run downstairs! I'm a loss adjuster not a receptionist!

I do love my job, but sometimes I feel like 'oh it's Monday morning' but that's usually after an exciting weekend. If it was a boring weekend I'd be 'ooh work'.

I work contracts so there's been jobs I've hated and others I've loved. I do sometimes work late, but not because its always necessary but because I enjoy it. After a period of unemployment like this 2 week gap I'm in now I'm looking forward to going back to work. I enjoy working and was desperate to find some work to fill these 2 weeks, I managed to get 2 days at least, so that was something, and I really enjoyed it.
  • Yes I love my job it's the light of my life, don't get me wrong I do enjoy the breaks though, but can't imagine having to retire.

I really did love my last job and the people I worked with. I miss it.

Never hate a job till you have not got one :(

I enjoy my job as a Civil Servant (not saying which department !) because although the work each day is the same, the letters & phonecalls I get ARE different during to different circumstances.

I also enjoy the team that I am because my team - mates are so varied and different and finally I love the fact that because I am flexi and work a compressed working week (I do my 37 hours in 4 days) that I am off every Monday - therefore every weekend is a long weekend for me !.

(I have worked for the same department for 24 years, but have done different jobs during th at time).
