How do you use Contactless in McDonalds ?

Seems strange to invent a "Faster way to pay", but have to wait for them to manually arm the terminal before you can use it.
Most systems go Sub-total -> total (at this point the balance to pay/items etc can't be changed) -> POS-EFT (ask card machine for the total amount).
Some people will hold back before doing the last two steps as they would have to void and re-enter everything (sometimes needing a manager). Others will work out it usually is faster to assume everyone will be paying by card.0 -

Boots is the worst system though, they have to specifically press a contactless button (Not just the card button) and to make things worse for some bizarre reason their machines won't take Amex cards via contactless. You have to do it via Chip and Pin.
I found this out the hard way when I was at the self service checkouts and I pressed contactless put my Amex card over it for the checkout to shout out "CARD DECLINED". Pretty embaressing, had everyone staring at me :P
I also have a friend who works part-time in Boots at the chemist and she said that the till often freezes up when she presses the contactless button.
I had problems in Boots yesterday too. The checkout assistant just said "oh it doesnt always work" as I was trying all different ways of holding my card against the machine. Great eh?
In our local Co-op they love you if you pay contactless as its so much quicker. Their staff have been properly trained but they say that a lot of people are reluctant to use it.0 -
I have to swipe myself into my workplace with a card that works on the same principle and that can sometimes not work the first, second or even third time.Interests: PCs. servers, networks, mobiles and music (esp. trance)0

And, I've just seen, opinions4u.
_Andy_ and Bugsy, I could just about understand, they could come across as combative/p1sstaking. O4U just told people what they needed to hear, not what they wanted.
Nice going, MSE. Is it just you want people around who blame the banks for everything and wrap everyone up in cotton wool?urs sinserly,

I've used my contactlesa card at least 6 or 7 times in the same day at various retailers and have never been asked to enter my PIN.
Seems diffrent card providers can set diffrent limits.
There is the Visa imposed £20 transaction spend. But card providers can set a max £ spend limit, or a no of transaction limit, before PIN needs to be entered. This can be as simple as entering it in a ATM.
Or leave it unlimited... Which is very high risk. But it seems that fraudsters & people who steal cards do not bother with contactless.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

With good reason. The spend limit is low, most shops don't take them and the goods that those shops sell can't usually be sold on for untraceable cash (good luck fencing a Big Mac meal.)urs sinserly,

I must agree, I've never been offered a cheap Big Mac or Coffee by a dodgy geezer in a trench coat.
Saying that, I could have bought some goods from M&S today and used contactless, but selling something sold in a store for £19.99 for £10 doesn't exactly bring in much cash, and considering the card might not work at the till, seems a little too much hassle to be bothering with.
Far easier to try and use the card online or for a phone purchase, as you have the CVV on the back.0 -
I can just imagine it now, thief standing there with stolen contactless card ordering a Big Mac, and the staff member saying "It goes in the bottom".JuicyJesus wrote: »good luck fencing a Big Mac meal.0 -
I wonder how many people have inadvertently paid someone else's bar bill?
OH has just had a contactless terminal installed, and we operate (except for a few regulars/anyone that works for me) on a strict 'pay as you buy' policy.
I'd have thought most pubs are the same, although for upstairs bookings, we do operate slightly differently.
