And when you get to bay 1 there is either an empty car parked there or someone sat in their car eating their food before they will move off meaning you have to find a normal space and watch the person bringing your food out wander all over looking for you.

I'm not sure about this contactless thing tbh, I'd be a bit wary of it. I suppose I'm showing my age and not trusting new technolngy.

My co op Barclays & lloyds have contactless and TBH its just as convenient for me putting in my pin.

Also be aware that there is a limit on the number/amount you can make/spend on contactless transactions, before you will have to enter your PIN. Security limits in case you lose your card.

I have noticed that many McD's do not have contactless terminals.

    Are you sure?

I've used my card in McD's at least 7 or 8 times and have never been prompted for a PIN?!?
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

Seems strange to invent a "Faster way to pay", but have to wait for them to manually arm the terminal before you can use it.

I have used it in McDonalds several times no issues.

Used it yesterday in a packed Mc Donalds and the kid on the till forgot to turn on the terminal and I looked like a right plonker banging my card on the terminal and nothing happening.

The woman next to me said. It goes in the bottom. She looked like i'd discovered fire when it finally worked.

Doing chip and pin transactions in-between resets the counter.

I think it is because they have retrofitted it into older technology. I expect as companies replace their entire till systems they will be able to cope with having contactless turned on all the time.

I've used my contactlesa card at least 6 or 7 times in the same day at various retailers and have never been asked to enter my PIN.

Indeed, this is true for companies like M&S who now in some stores have the chip and pin machines that light up the second the cashier has finished scanning the items through.

Boots is the worst system though, they have to specifically press a contactless button (Not just the card button) and to make things worse for some bizarre reason their machines won't take Amex cards via contactless. You have to do it via Chip and Pin.

I found this out the hard way when I was at the self service checkouts and I pressed contactless put my Amex card over it for the checkout to shout out "CARD DECLINED". Pretty embaressing, had everyone staring at me :P

I also have a friend who works part-time in Boots at the chemist and she said that the till often freezes up when she presses the contactless button.
  • It would be healthier and tastier to eat your card, rather than a mcdonalds

I disagree, I bought a quarter pounder and it tasted much better than my card.
