I just tell the staff 'paying with contactless?' they go 'yes' press a button on their till and then place the card on the terminal for a couple seconds, then it says approved and I take it off. It wont work if the till member doesnt put the card/contactless payment method on their till

Hi, Yes I get that part, and it does come up with 'Present Card' and lights up, so they have pressed the button. I think it's because I was only putting part of the card on the screen rather than hold the whole card over the screen.

I had no problems with using contactless in McDonalds recently. There was a problem with that at the beginning, but probably because the staff needed some training at the time.

Much depends on the till itself I think. I'm not sure how it is in McDonalds (I've never worked there), but in Boots we have 3 buttons: Cash, Card Payment, Contactless.. As far as I know if the till operator chooses Card Payment there will be no Contactless payment possible until switched to Contactless. But I haven't tested it thoroughly as I use till to take NHS prescription charges or selling medicines.

You just need to hold your card over a card reader screen for a second or two, until you hear a beep.. and job done.

My local wetherspoons has had it installed. Very convenient, used it quite a bit on the weekend.

I wonder how many people have inadvertently paid someone else's bar bill?

Don't worry its not a wind up, I am just fed up of getting looked at as if I was from another planet !, so just wondered if I was doing it wrong.

Contactless is fine at McDonalds for a speedy process then you find out you have to park in Bay 1 because your food is not ready.

And when you get to bay 1 there is either an empty car parked there or someone sat in their car eating their food before they will move off meaning you have to find a normal space and watch the person bringing your food out wander all over looking for you.

I'm not sure about this contactless thing tbh, I'd be a bit wary of it. I suppose I'm showing my age and not trusting new technolngy.
