I haven't thought of an au pair this time round - i was in my mind wondering if i could get someone to come regularly daily from say 3.30-6.30pm and get them to do the hands on feeding, bathing etc so that i am more in a support role when i get back from work. I am in a 3 bed house but the third room is pretty small, and there is no built in storage so i have actually put in open shelving that my friend put up for me. it is also an office cubbyhole and has the tumble drier. I love this room actually - makes the rest of the house liveable!!! - An au pair would be a great solution too though. I don't know. I feel really tired and a bit demoralised tonight so not a good time for decisions. Part of me thinks maybe i should slow down a bit and just be there for DD as she is little now and needs me now. If it was my own business i would be much freer to juggle things and would get the chores for the next day done in those hours when I am also looking after the DD's. And then get back to work as soon as they go to bed.
Got to go iron school uniforms, no sitting down yet!!!0 -
Hi BH, how's you?
Had a drink out with lovely neighbours this eve..left the girls for 30 mins with our au pair..until OH came home. Thought of you at the time and wondered if that's the kind of flexibility and support that could be useful.
Have a good end of week

Brizzle - you have me completely sold me on the au pair idea. Not really doable right at this moment but without doubt the answer for the future and I will definitely be factoring it in.
I am OK ta - should be working as came home early to pick up the bed delivery...DD seems pleased-ish...unfortunately my friend did not make the base so now have to order a base so two lots of delivery charge. Boo! And then I thought the washing machine was on and it wasn't, so the poor girl went to bed without the bed being made with the new big girl duvet and sheets etc. Anyway, they are all on the bed now and she'll wake up to it all in the morning. I mixed up their lunch boxes today too so that didn't go down well either - think i need to try and go to bed!!
Thanks for your message Brizzle.0 -
Hi BH, sorry to hear about the bed base but hopefully the new bed will help DD to be less tired, which should also have the same effect on you :j
I also think the au pair idea sounds great. As well as massively helping you out the kids could learn a new language at the same timeI used to teach skiing in the alps to kids from all over the world and it always amazed me how quickly they could pick up languages. Whether I taught in French or English, within a couple of days they were all communicating with each other regardless of their native tongue. & I've always thought it's a great advantage to have another language. Obviously you need enough room for an au pair but if it saves in normal childcare or after school clubs it might not cost much more and could really improve your quality of life? Good luck

Thanks I2U! I think it would cost considerably less in childcare costs, and improve my quality of life a lot!!!
All well - I had a massive uninterrupted 7.5 hours sleep last night thanks to the new bed. Wow!!! I felt like a million dollars today!:j:j DD went to bed like a lamb and fell asleep without any fuss tonight too - long may it last. The new duvet is really light and snuggly and she is thrilled.
So I might actually do something useful tonight because I am not dropping with tiredness as I usually am.0 -
Yay!!! Sleep and a new bed and happy kids...what's not to like;):j:j:jMFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Massive (for me!) £780 payment to CC!!! I am so happy! - it was saved up OT and Expenses but still - it all helps.
For the rest, money seems to be disappearing alarmingly as usual, even though have been trying to be very good. Myself and the girls had haircuts today - all together was £34 incl 2 hair accessories that DD1 helped herself to while I was having mine done so I felt compelled to buy them.
I have two major birthdays to buy for this month, and am also going to see a bunch of v old friends at the end of the month, including staying with them, so am wondering about buying a case of champagne and giving everyone bottles...might be a good budget way to give a decent gift. Not sure. Will shop around.0 -
Hi, wine is a nice gift but don't think it needs to be a case..how many friends? Pots of flowers to supplement? But try a good wine merchant for maybe 3 nice bottles if you have a market town near you and they will let you try before you buy as well!:D
Well done on the OP to the CC...you are cooking on gas!MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Three nights at three different friends...i did opt for a case of prosecco on 50% discount in the end as 5 bottles would be needed...
Feeling the temptation to spend oh so strongly - mainly on myself for a few summer clothes. All the sales are on. Trying to be strong!!0 -
Well done on the CC payment BH that's a brilliant amount to have paid off :j & the Prosecco at 50% off sounds like an excellent gift to me
I can understand your temptation to spend on clothes & can only suggest if it's a need then you should go ahead. If it's only a want then try and stay strong.
I'm off to the shops in a minute to get a couple of things myself as I'm off to the states with work tomorrow and having had a look at the weather forecast I really need some lightweight stuff!!! :cool2:0
