    Thanks again for the advice.

I will be going to CAB tomorrow morning.

I don't know if I would recognise him as he (at least I would assume it was him) stayed in the car for the whole transaction and it was only his daughter that looked at the car.

I will log the message with the police in case it is taken further.

With everything that has happened this year it seem to me that 2013 is just unlucky for me.

There is a Citizens Advice board on this website

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=211

Which is manned by CA staff.

Also, i think you can also email them or ring them.

I am sure it will all work out fine, but its the hassle, stress and worry that people like this inflict in the meantime.

At what point would they think you not responsible for fixing their new car ?
They bought it, they own it.
Any County court claim requires a two word defence .
Caveat emptor: a well used and well proven defence when selling second hand goods.

In other words the New driver has shafted the car and now they want you to foot the bill for her crash course in driving a different car to the one you past your test in.
Tell them they own the car, they are responsible for any repairs, defects, maintenance and service costs, they should buy from a dealer if they want warranties and pay the huge mark up a dealer charges.
    Be happy...;)
  • I just looked at the CAB part of the forums and currently they don't deal with selling of goods as it is mainly based on work rights, benefits debts and tax credits. And currently they cannot answer advice related queries via the website.

You don't need CAB, you've been given all the advice you need in this thread.
  • althamon, I reckon you have enough to go on from the advice that has been given here. I know it's worrying, but you should be confident in your position and firm in your response.
  • Just discussed it with the police and they said there isn't much they can do as it is a civil matter and as money has changed hands and documentation has been signed and sent off to seek legal advice. The call has now been logged anyway.

They were never going to do anything about it. The main thing is they've logged it so if there's any future hassle from this guy then it's on record.

    +1

The point of the police conversation was to let them know the O/P feels threatened and intimidated. This may be useful if the sellers father and a mate DOES turn up on the O/P's doorstep.

The sale of the car is totally irrelevant to the Police.

They should be interested in and logging any threats the guy is making. Nothing more.

And the OP should def make it clear to the buyer that the incident has been reported to police
