work whinge

I started working for my current company in May last year in one role. When that was comming to an end my manager sat my down and said that he was changing the role and would need someone with more project managememt skills, a degree and a driving licence.
I moved to another role in the same company.
He then only interviewed and hired one of the customer care team.
She is still doing her degree
Hasnt yet passed her driving test
Has no project managememt experience.
I am hacked off! How do I let this go and get over it?

In my experience, when I've lost that feeling of goodwill towards an employer it's time for me to move on, but your situation may be different. Do you see yourself being able to stay there longterm? Have you discussed this with your manager? How recently did you move to your new role?

Unfortunately, it looks like he wanted the other person to do the role rather than you. No-one knows why - it could be for any number of reasons perhaps he found you a threat or it perhaps was a personality clash. We can't all get on with everyonee.

If he didn't want you to work with him, then it is best you didn't as it would have caused all sorts of problems. You should look at it as a lucky escape and at least you were offered another job in the same company.

If you don't like your current role then you need to start looking for another job in another company, but there is no point in feeling bitter about it as it will not help.

I'd look at it as a lucky escape. This replacement might lose their appeal to your ex-boss in the future and then she'll be replaced with the next girl to take his fancy - whereas you've landed yourself a new role with a boss you prefer and you're probably much more appreciated for your actual skills and personality!
I'm not sure I would rock the boat by persuing it if you plan to stay in the same company, unless you feel that you can go over his head or get support from others who would back you up. Even though he's in the wrong, he's already gotten away with it once by moving you, if he knows the right people and pulls the wrong strings you could end up jobless with him still acting the same way to future employees.

Think about it this way - if he asked you to move back to that role tomorrow, would you say yes, knowing what you know now?
  • Is she earning more than you were in her new role?

If you think you are being disadvantaged speak up. But be sure you have your facts straight. Do not mention her appearance just her qualifications.

Is there an HR manager you could speak to informally in the first instance?

    .

Well, you just need to ignore those sorts of managers as there is nothing you can do about them and you are best of not working for them anyway as they will have other nasty personality traits. Fortunately, most managers aren't like that.
