Love the house. Have you thought about retirement livery? Saw one with a friend once and thought it was a fab idea - essentially the horses live out in herds and in a barn in same herd in winter. Owners pay you to take their oldies. The owners rarely drop in and keep in touch via photos on facebook mainly with the odd visit at pre-arranged times. Struck me as profitable and I'd do it if I could afford the land which in the South East isn't ever going to happen!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Sounds a great idea. Don't the owners ever forget to pay and just disappear?0

Livery! Thats the word - I'd forgotten it.
Erm, if they forget to pay, you've got their horse .... sad but true.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Poor you and dd, that must be very stressful on top of everything else that you have going on. How old is she? Likely to grow out of it?Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
KC thats what worries me about retired horses...
Thanks Squirrel. I hope so. She has been fine today.
Apparently house details are going out to people from out of county, which we kind of expected.0 -

Thanks Cath.
KC you are right but the sad truth with retired horses is they are not worth anything and the livery owner might be left with the expense and trauma of having them PTS.0 -

A point I thought off. It doesn't seem to have been an issue at the yard I looked at with friend. And they are very cheap to keep as just out at pasture with a large barn for shelter so costs would be feed and hay. It is a 'risk' I suppose, but then, so is just about any business. There is probably a way of building in a financial safety net....Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
