You are right there HH. We had a letter from Fortis saying that that our debt had been passed to them, when I rang though they have absolutely no record of me, my debts or anything else!! They suggested waiting until another letter turns up and then ringing them. How great would it be if they had "lost" my debt!!! You can always dream..
We are going to spend the day trying to find a cheap cooker now that ours has decided to go on the blink! Typical:mad:
We seemed to be doing quite well on the DMP, things had settled down and we were living pretty well on our budget. NatWest have stirred things up this month though by closing our bank accounts (which we haven't used since June 2012), they have written to everyone who we ever had a DD with which has brought us an avalanche of post even though we set up a new account and have been using this for nearly 12 months. Still I guess this is our penance for going on a DMP!
Sorry to hear about the cooker, good luck finding replacement. At least you have the power of the interweb to make the shortlist and do cost comparison.
Natwest will sort themselves out eventually. I'd let them do the chasing.

What's the plan after DFD?
HHx
Thanks HH, we plan to take a week in the sun ( budget of course:)) and then slowly catch up with house repairs etc that have been on hold.
Major planning for future to ensure we never end up in debt again. I am a convert to old style money saving forum and will continue to lurk on this and dfw forum to keep me on straight and narrow.

Well done ald65 and a week away in the sun is well deserved :T By the time we start our DMP, the total will around £81k (interest and charges being added daily whilst DMP is pending) and we have probably close to 4 1/2 years or so until we can claim the same. However, stories like yours are so important because it makes people like me, just starting out, know that there is light at the end of the tunnel, even though the tunnel may be a rather long oneLBM: March 2013 / DMP Start: 1 July 2013 / 14 Creditors

No thank goodness, although still a big balance to clear. I should clear one debt later this year though so more to pay off the rest.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Hello all
I hope you all had a good weekend and that there were no new disasters for anyone. I also hope everyone has managed to sort out those things in life that seem to break down at the worst moment. Good luck to any newbies who are also starting their DMP journey this month.
Well with it looking like the house may have been sold - not expecting to be told that little nugget any time soon though, having mentioned it to my parents, they have offered a lump sum to settle. Not only are they fabulous parents anyway, I am in just stunned that they would help in this way. Due to it being mostly a mortgage shortfall I am probably going to opt for an F&F IVA just to make sure because of the 12 year rules that any settlement is official, but I will seek professional advice before I do anything. My credit file is already screwed so I want to make sure I can't be chased for it once a payment is made, and I don't see that another 6 years is going to make a lot of difference.
All rather emotional and guilty over it all though as I appreciate I have been given an offer of help that most people can only dream of. Still it is a bit of a way to go yet until I can consider myself to be debt free in any way.

Hi I'm new to the thread and just want to share my debt history.
My LBM was in the summer of 2009. I owed around £25,000 in cc's and £15,000 loan with NatWest. I did speak to CCCS (now Stepchange) and filled in an SOA. I didn't follow through then I spoke to a company called Debt Fixers (now Money Debt & Credit) and I went with them. They were very understanding and spoke to my creditors. I was put in a DMP paying £400 a month on the cc's only. I was determined to pay the loan myself rather than including it in the DMP, meaning it would've become an IVA.
Fast forward to now, I finished paying off the loan in December, settled with one of my creditors couple of weeks ago and I have £5,300 left to pay with the other creditors. To top it off, I'm waiting for a PPI reclaim payment which will more than cover the remaining debt.
I had to sacrifice holidays for almost 10 years and didn't have many clothes but by the summer I hope to be debt free and take that well-deserved break.0 -
Hello MissL and welcome to the thread. Well done on managing to sort out your finances and to be almost at the end of it now. Fingers crossed all goes well with the PPI claim then you can look forward to spending a bit on yourself for a change.

Why thank you it will be worth it in the long run. It was a very expensive holiday 10 years ago that caused me to run into serious debt and managed to survive until my LBM. Almost 4 years later I got some money put aside in a cash ISA (2 PPI payments) and awaiting the major PPI payout to clear debts..it's like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.:)0 -
