  • Hello all

I hope you all had a good weekend and that there were no new disasters for anyone. I also hope everyone has managed to sort out those things in life that seem to break down at the worst moment. Good luck to any newbies who are also starting their DMP journey this month.

Well with it looking like the house may have been sold - not expecting to be told that little nugget any time soon though, having mentioned it to my parents, they have offered a lump sum to settle. Not only are they fabulous parents anyway, I am in just stunned that they would help in this way. Due to it being mostly a mortgage shortfall I am probably going to opt for an F&F IVA just to make sure because of the 12 year rules that any settlement is official, but I will seek professional advice before I do anything. My credit file is already screwed so I want to make sure I can't be chased for it once a payment is made, and I don't see that another 6 years is going to make a lot of difference.

All rather emotional and guilty over it all though as I appreciate I have been given an offer of help that most people can only dream of. Still it is a bit of a way to go yet until I can consider myself to be debt free in any way.

Glad the house situation will finally bring some closure. YAY to your folks. Go for it - fresh start. Have you found a practitioner yet?

just an update from me and where I'm at - DMP set up and offers sent out to all creditors plus first payments made to all of them. All but Hellifax and Aqua have frozen interest from 6 months to 12 months giving me a chance to regroup and get myself together properly. Fone has stopped ringing off the hook and I'm sleeping at night :)

I've given up on the self employment and start an employed job on Monday with enough salary to cover all outgoings.

Plan is get everything ticking over for the next couple of months then work on the 2 companies still applying interest.

In all starting to feel a bit more hopeful all round - thankyou for all the support and advice on here so far - its been an invaluable resource to read and will be a point of reference for me as I move forward :D

I had a letter on the weekend from NRAM on the weekend advising that they have accepted the Stepchange payment proposal, however today i get a letter from Stepchange to advise they (NRAM) have refuse the payment because of Adult 2 in the household contributions. I have emailed SC to advise i have had these letters of acceptance from them but the thing that threw me is about the Adult 2 (Wife :D) is not on any of the debts and they are all in my name so on my DMP/SOA all the details enetered were for my income/outgoings and not hers (Although i pay the majority of the bills etc etc, as she only works part time). The way i see it is that these are my debts and due to my overspending etc etc we wouldn't be in this situation, hence why i trying to sort it. Is there any way they can force her to add to my DMP?

Have you tried to do 2 separate debt remedy assessments to see what it comes up with?

As far as I'm aware they should only look at your income and outgoings. However it may be that you have included her salary but no expenditure from her. Can't you state that her salary is going towards priority bills like electricity and so on. Good luck

  • Some good news - we are getting married in a week and a half! Its very very low key, my dress and kids outfits are via ebay. I am making and decorating the cake myself and the party is at parents house in garden in marqui - it was allready arranged in honour of a significant birthday I have looming at the end of the month!
My best friend is doing me a spray tan and my nails.
Our biggest expense was the money we paid for the ceremony at the town hall. Its really important to me that we get married, my friend died suddenly last year, her affairs were left in a mess, I want some security for our family. And Im looking at it as cementing our future and the start of the rest of our lives and becoming secure and debt free.

Congratulations supersavershal. I hope both you have an absolutely wonderful wedding day

Thanks HH although I need a slap as stressing over it all, especially as I want to make sure I do the right thing with the offer from the family. I have researched my top 3 choices but need to get all the figures in yet from the dreaded NRAM and FirstPlus.

I had the misfortune to speak to NRAM yesterday over the unsecured element and all I can say with the second person I spoke to I hope she never has debt problems as she was beyond patronising. However it didn't work on me as I have dealt with far worse. She got uber snotty when I said SC would be in touch with my I&E as they are dealing with everything as you could just tell she was beyond miffed she was not at all in control of the conversation and that I knew what I was on about. Mission accomplished. :D

Thank you everyone, wev been together 20 odd years so its been a long time coming.
Im making a list tonight of big expenses coming up in the next 6 months so I can try to plan better for them.
I cant believe how relaxed I am feeling now DMP is well underway, I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know 5 years is a long time but its not forever. Hoping to cut it shorter as we have a secured loan that will finish before that so can then up payments.

I would just send the letter of acceptance to SC as they should just continue to send over the payment. Unfortunately NRAM do not have a clue most of the time so your letter probably went to a different place to the letter from SC and both have given different advice, I get this every time I ring up and have learnt to ignore their incompetence.

Our MBNA debts have been passed to a company called Link now they have sent letters saying to continue paying the amount agreed each month and they will review with SC in 6 months. Its strange but after a few quiet months a lot has happened with debts being sold off, all have defaulted us now as well
    Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35
    Now £27,470.20 :T
    57% of debts cleared:beer:
