  • I dont post on here much but I do read the forum a lot and am grateful for the support it gives.

Thought I would share some positive news with you after my last post in January saying how fed up I was.

We have managed to get our debt down from over £100k to around £33k over the last 3 years or so. A couple of months ago one of our creditors (we have a BIG loan with them) wrote and said they were obliged to contact us about a possible misselling of PPI on the loan. We sat and talked it through with their questionnaire in hand and the more we did the clearer it became that we didnt need the PPI at the time and in fact we were pressured into taking it. It was a consolidation loan and at the time we would have signed almost anything to try and get straight.

Anyway we filled in the form with complete honesty and sent it off. An 'unfriendly' phone call followed to 'clarify' one or two things and to ask for more info. We gave it but were left feeling that they were going to say no.

Got a letter on Friday - claim is upheld on this loan and a previous large one which was rolled up into it - they are refunding almost £10k!!! This brings our DFD date forward to the middle of next year and I am so pleased that the end of the tunnel is so much nearer.

Everything else is ok on the DMP. Three creditors are now completely paid off. We have recently reached over 35% paid and I am desperate to see us in the £40Ks and another debt completely paid, which should come around the end of the Summer :D

Sometimes it's a hard battle but we'll get there in the end and it's all with the help of this thread. Heartfelt thanks to all who contribute :A

Hi, glad to hear that three crediors have been paid off. Just out of interest did you make usual monthly payments until they were paid off or did you pay extra to clear them earlier. Just because I've got a couple which have relatively small balances and I can't wait to clear them. BOS have never stopped charging me interest. Maybe I'll follow your advice and pay only token payments from now on. Good luck with them.

Hope everyone is enjoying holiday weekend. So nice not to have that Sunday evening feeling.:)

    Morning all,

Dh has work today which is a good start to the week, he is more than happy to work the BH.
Couple of good pieces of news, I spoke to family tax credit on Friday and they have been underpaying us since August last year as they assumed youngest boy was now working because he is 16? Child benefit wrote to me and I informed them he was at sixth form, I just assumed this would be passed on but apparently not. Anyway the upshot is they owe us some money:T not sure how much yet but anything is better than nothing.
Also getting a new boiler which is desperately needed due to one of the current government schemes in our area to reduce our carbon emissions. As its 20 yrs old its not very green at all and just about managed to limp through last years winter so am very relieved.
All we need now is to win the lottery and we will be sorted, shame I can't afford a ticket:cool:

We paid extra to clear them, both were charging interest and we wanted them done and dusted. Of course as soon as we paid them, someone else started charging interest but fighting that one at the moment.

I use the DFW forum Payment a Day (PAD) challenge to make extra payments to creditors. Even when it's only pennies, over a month it makes a significant difference :)

Great news Julie, let's hope things really start to look up for you this month. :j

Do you have any more information on the boiler/carbon emission schemes please?

TTFTM I initially googled schemes for cavity wall insulation in our area and came up with a number, it turned out to be through Eon but funded through the government.
Anyway. A guy came, looked at our cavity walls, insulation and boiler. The other insulation was deemed adequate, but the boiler is in a bad way so they will replace it. Think it was based on our low income and family, working tax credits though. Hope this helps.:)
