The only draw back is it's in a place that is most wet, mostly cold and full of a lot of orange people :rotfl:
Hello to all the newbies and good luck btw.
I really do admire your sense of humour and tenacity despite everything that has been thrown at you.
I hope my post was not insensitive.
Here's a big dodgy group hug on behalf of the thread :grouphug::grouphug:

Hi,
I'm in the process of sorting out a DMP with step change. Just started....but trying to sort out a bank account seperate from any debt.
I was looking earlier in the week and at one point applied to santander. I got a message about being unable to give me an answer etc and id hear later. I then went onto looking at basic accounts to decide whats best but havent opened one yet (Was planning to go to barclays on tuesday).
Anyway, while getting bogged down on what bank is linked to which, I ruled santander out for some other reason anyway.
Ive come home today and they have opened a current account (without overdraft) and so I was looking into it again and I'm now not sure why I ruled out banking there.
I have debts with halifax, nationwide, capital one and mbna. Can anyone reassure me that this should be fine? I cant find anything to the suggest not, but something made me come to that conclusion a few days ago!
Reading this thread is so helpful - its so reassuring to see people well into plans - or fing!
Hi I thought that santander were connected in some way to mbna, I had a Abby credit card which changed to santander then mbna , but I may be wrong
But I would double check!DFD Jan 2014 :dance::dance:

No way is your post insensitive so I hope you don't think that.
Thanks for the group hug. To be honest I think you kind of have to keep a sense of humour in all of this and I consider myself to be in a very fortunate position compared to so many other people on the boards.
Good news for you about NRAM, I know they don't always get the best rating on here but I have to say I have always found them to be nice with me*, so I hope you have a painless experience with them should you decide to move.
*subject to experience with impending shortfall

Morning all,
Another early one for me - but I struggle to lay in on the weekend, when I get up at six for work every other day. Mind you, I like the peacefulness and it's very pleasant at the moment -and already quite sunny :j
I'm hoping me and OH (and maybe DD) will take a trip out somewhere, just to enjoy the first proper bit of sunshine we've had all year - and forget all these debt worries for a few hours. There's a few lovely coastal areas near me - and it's been a while since I've sat by the sea watching the world go by - with, of course, the obligatory ice-cream.
HH - glad the mortgage thing is looking upOur fixed term rate ends in a month or two, and before all this started we had a letter offering us some fairly decent fixed term options. But I guess that's not going to happen now. But the current SVR is much lower than we were paying anyway, so I'm hoping to be able to keep the monthly payment the same and reduce the years (if that's at all possible).
FTR - I also really love your sense of humourand, agree with what you say that you've gotta have that mindset at times, just to keep things in balance.
Well the OH's now shouting for his early morning cup of tea (what did I say about peaceful...). So best get that up to him, then I'm going to nosey around the rest of the board for a while.

Hi Suseka
A day at the seaside sounds just the tonic.
Sorry to hear about the frustration but there could be a silver lining. The up side is one more month of tokens means more in the emergency fund and more chance the creditors will freeze interest. Fingers crossed.

Thanks HH - to be honest I hadn't really thought about it like that and you're right of course and I'm definitely going to head off somewhere nice today. Have a great day yourself and thanks for lifting my moodLBM: March 2013 / DMP Start: 1 July 2013 / 14 Creditors

Hi everyone and welcome to the newbies :hello:
Have got an awful lot going on in my life at the moment and feel like I have been neglecting this thread. I do read it every day or two but haven't posted much so will try and get a bit more active again.
Brilliant on getting under £30K and paying off more than one third Ellie :T
Fantastic news on the mortgage HH. We all know you don't want to move to Wales because they humiliate the English at rugby but you stick to your excuse :rotfl:
Well done on being so close to debt free Antonic! I hope you are practising the cocktail shaking for your DF party here :j
We are doing mostly ok but BOS are giving us a bad time at the moment and have reintroduced interest at 27.9%. We actually thought they had defaulted OH because they sent out more actual default notices than anyone else, then went very quiet. It turns out they haven't. Anyway have sent them a new I&E and are fighting it, so will see what happens next but it's great to have the power to reduce their payment if we need to. They may change their mind after a few months of token payments
Have had some massive car expenses recently and having already paid out over £650, we need to find another £400+ for tyres by the end of this month
Everything else is ok on the DMP. Three creditors are now completely paid off. We have recently reached over 35% paid and I am desperate to see us in the £40Ks and another debt completely paid, which should come around the end of the Summer
Sometimes it's a hard battle but we'll get there in the end and it's all with the help of this thread. Heartfelt thanks to all who contribute :A

I dont post on here much but I do read the forum a lot and am grateful for the support it gives.
Thought I would share some positive news with you after my last post in January saying how fed up I was.
We have managed to get our debt down from over £100k to around £33k over the last 3 years or so. A couple of months ago one of our creditors (we have a BIG loan with them) wrote and said they were obliged to contact us about a possible misselling of PPI on the loan. We sat and talked it through with their questionnaire in hand and the more we did the clearer it became that we didnt need the PPI at the time and in fact we were pressured into taking it. It was a consolidation loan and at the time we would have signed almost anything to try and get straight.
Anyway we filled in the form with complete honesty and sent it off. An 'unfriendly' phone call followed to 'clarify' one or two things and to ask for more info. We gave it but were left feeling that they were going to say no.
Got a letter on Friday - claim is upheld on this loan and a previous large one which was rolled up into it - they are refunding almost £10k!!! This brings our DFD date forward to the middle of next year and I am so pleased that the end of the tunnel is so much nearer.
