That's kind of you GBoT.. and, for what it's worth, well done you for your DFW achievements so far. Am mega impressed
You certainly give me inspiration.
Sometimes I feel quite despondent because I'm not quite sure what the future holds... but I read so many amazing stories on here of how others have overcome their worries and doubts, that I cannot help but be inspired.
Can't imagine where I would be right now without the support of this forum... which is why, tonight, it saddened me to read a thread from a former mse poster who despite many people on here giving unwavering support were spoken of so disrespectfully.
But yes... you are right... move on.

I hope it didn't come across that I was bragging about paying off part of my debt, or that I think it's easy. I was in a very bleak place and I don't like to remember it now. The only thing I can say is that I have survived, and I think you will too. My favourite thread on this forum is the Debt-free Roll of Honour because it's about people who've made it out the other side. However long it takes, we can do it.
There's an irony that none of us want to be here but on the other hand, some of the most helpful posts are from people who have paid off their debt and now want to help others. I was upset too about that poster (I've only just read the whole thread elsewhere) but if it's any comfort, by the end posters there (esp those who had read the threads here) were backing what was said on MSE...
Take care. I don't know what to say except that it will get better. Honestly, the first part is the worst. It really does get a little easier.

Okay, I need to catch up on peoples posts on this thread. So forgive me if I don't make comments on how well, or otherwise, things are going for you all. I will do later
I've been stressing for several days now about our situation - and I realise negative thoughts will not help the situation, so today I have tried to be much more positive.
Letters with token payments have been written and sent. StepChange agreement and all requisite documentation is ready to send Monday morning. Debt DDs cancelled and salaries transferred to new account as of next month.
So now we wait.....
Anxious - yes
Scared - yes, yes and again yes
Positive about the future... not sure
All I can say is that I wouldn't even be where we/I am now if it wasn't for the unwavering support of folks in this forum.
Thank you everyone.... you're the best x
I feel I have to add as an addendum... I feel quite bruised from reading a former mse poster on here, who I so tried to help, even though I have little to offer... who has since dissed so many helpful and kind people on here on this other forum.
So what I want to say is you guys are AWESOME :T
It sounds like you are doing all the right things, remember to keep a copy of everything you send and the original of everything that is sent from creditors to you. I started with a filing box with a division for each creditor, am on box 3 now and am going to have a great bonfire party when it's all over!
Your up and down feelings are 100% normal, I say this so many times but it's the only way I can describe it, the start up of a DMP is a real emotional roller coaster. The start of the good feelings came for me at the end of month 2, we received our monthly statements and all of a sudden there was a real difference in the amount of debt. It's quite a while to wait but when it comes, it's amazing so please hold on to that thought, it's coming for you too.
We had similar starting debt to you, £81,306 plus £1038 undisclosed BNPL, so a horrible massive starting debt of £82,344. With your projected DFD, you appear to be making large monthly payments as we are, so you will really see big differences each month. Milestones are really important, we have celebrated each big % drop, 10%, 20%, 30% etc and going from £80,000s into £70Ks, £60Ks and now in the £50Ks. You will be sharing these with us soon too.
Don't let that other person bother you, I tried to help him too but soon gave up. Now I strongly suspect he lives under a bridge, is big and ugly and spends his days chasing billy goats. The people on this thread are all here with a common purpose, we are all here in the same boat and we know how each other feel. It tends to be a genuine case of WYSIWYG. We advise, help and support each other and this thread was a real life saver to me when I first came here and didn't even know what a DMP was, people's experience was my guidance. Now I try to give some of that back by sharing my experience, it's how we all contribute and that mutual support is what makes this thread really special. You are part of that so please stick around and share your debt free journey with us and we will be there for you, whenever you need us.

I read the thread, though I did not comment myself, don't let it get you down, there is no helping people who won't help themselves. A lot of it looked like attention seeking high drama to me and a lot was inconsistent to the point of nonsense, so one for the vault I think, forget it and move on, as you say there are some awesome people on here and you are definitely one of them:DISA £1675MiniMoohound savings £3685.86 :T Plus £3800 CTF

No - it certainly didn't come across like bragging at allIt was motivational. I've now subscribed to the DF RoH thread and look forward to the day I will earn that badge
Thank you for your kind words.

You give me such inspiration - you and HH. I'm always impressed on how well you both self manage your DMP. We are going to be making large payments - yes, and I just hope our creditors freeze interest so the DFD stays as planned. If not - I know where to come for advice
Thanks to you Moohound - I do appreciate your support too. It's folks like you and so many others I could mention that gives me hope I can / will get through this.
I should add that the poster in question has PM'd me and apologised - so that is the end to it.
Well, I'm going to start working my way through the DF RoH thread whist waiting to see the start of the marathon. Then I'm going to get off my butt and get busy

Morning Suseka:wave:
I am with you on the potential troll. Thankfully much more good here than that sorta nonsense. :A Trust me you have plenty of offer, that's no small way. Everyone does, you don't need to be debt expert, words of support and encouragement can make a huge difference to people in despair.:T You soon become more knowledgeable, look at how much more you know now that 3 months ago so don't forget that.:)
Great news you have the stuff sorted and behind you. That is one of the hardest steps. From here on you can look forward to the postie coming. Even if he doesn't bring good news on a particular day you know where to go for the support and information to tackle it so I'd say much better position than a few months ago.:D
My debt went up 2% in the first month:p and whilst that was scary I knew like decorating and DIY it had to get worse to get better. Day by day it did get better.
My debt ratio is around the same level. Mine was just short on 60k and I am single. :wall:
There's plenty around to be positive about and on days when you're not we can come here for support and know that we can just say it as it is - amongst friends.:grouphug:
I found it helpful to challenge negativity into developing lots of mini goal posts whether it's a meal for £3, stocktake in cupboards, list of birthdays etc.
Sometimes you just need to be kind to yourself, nice bath etc.
Most of all don't forget what you have already achieved.:T
Hope you have a better day

The ox took me in as well, seems we can all fall for it, and the threads gone.
However, all you have to do is visit this place and others and your spirits lift with the sheer positiveness of the place. This is what mse, debt free wannabee is all about.
Happy Days

Morning all,
Just thought I'd pop my head around the door. Things are bobbing along, no changes, still waiting for a response Asda CC.
Think the next step is a complaint to financial ombudsman.
I've got some news, bit of a dilemma really. I have an interview for a job that sounds right up my street:j my problem is I ripped a cartilage in my knee a few weeks ago and am struggling to just walk around at the moment. Anyway I have an appointment with the surgeon on Thursday and should have a date for an op. should I go for the interview and explain I couldn't start for a few weeks if I get it. It's just really bad timing. The money would mean we could throw so much more at the DMP. I really want to go self managed as soon as I can and get into the full and final offer arena. What do you think. I'm probably not going to lose anything by attending the interview?
Oh forgot to say hi to Suseka. I'm not sure which thread your talking about but:p to them, this thread is wonderful and HH and Ttftm along with others have given lots of us wonderful help and advice. Good luck.Started Self Managed DMP 10th May 2017.

Yes go for the interview. I'm in a similar position have interview Friday, and due treatment soon which I should find out about tomorrow. I'm workin on the basis if I get the job by the time they do checks and get references make a formal offer and then I give 2 months notice all will be sorted health wise.
Good Luck and at the very least it keeps you up with interview experience.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -
Morning Julie !
I would go for the interview and mention that its likely that you will need the operation to fix your cartilage problem.
If they want you to work for them they should make allowances for this fact, and if they dont and you dont get the job then you can use the interview as experience for the next one.
It is better to have tried and failed then to have never tried at all !.
Good luck !Morning all,
