Mum26, didn't want to read and run, I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable than me can help. But I do know step change will allow you to make just token payments for a couple of months while you get a bit of money together, pay for repairs etc. would that help?
It would be worth a phone call

Hi all, we are on a DMP with StepChange and our car is about to die :( Does anyone have any experience of what our options are likely to be please?

    Hi

    It's a nuisance isn't it?

You will need to call SC and let them know how much you need the car. As Julie says you will agree prospectively what the plan is.

I need a car for work, at one stage they told me I would be able to take on a loan for a replacement. Funnily enough they dried up on advice when I asked where I could get a loan from that wasn't going to cost more than my DMP!!!!

SC don't pay creditors until the 25th so you should be able to ask for a refund of this months money, they can reverse it.

I wrote myself to the preditors, stipulating that I had agreed the plan of action with SC and then I sent copies of the car repairs. Most preditors were fine, some kicked off as they do when the DMP alters by a penny or so. I just wrote back and then complained where necessary and all got sorted.

In short it is all doable, there may be some hassle along the way but nothing you can't handle.

Good luck with it, please let us know how you get on

...now there is a phrase I never thought I'd say!

I have been a bit nervous about the whole DMP thing this week as most of my payments will start to default in the next week, and I come home to 3 lovely letters from MBNA accepting Step Changes proposed payment and freezing interest and charges woohoo!!!

So thats 3 out of 25 :eek:creditors playing nicely - whats the chances the other 22 will be so nice?!:D

All joking aside, my payments are pretty large so im hopeful that they will be supportive, however im worried about paydayuk, wonga and poundstopocket as their proportion of my payment from StepChange seems really small - anyone got experience from these companies at all?

Im loving this thread it really puts my mind at ease to see how successful people are at clearing their debt - im starting off at 70k but have a DFD of 25/07/17, aiming for a year earlier with bonuses and OT hopefully!

Great news, excellent start to the weekend

    Morning all,

Is it sad that I keep checking the SC website to see if its showing my April payment yet:p
Anyway looking forward to a peaceful weekend. Dh is a bit fed up and I think the fact that we are on this DMP is kicking in for him. Work is very very quiet and I can't work with my knees, just waiting for an operation, so we are totally reliant on his income. We can no longer turn to Credit to get us through the bad months, as we have in the past.
That's what got us in this mess in the first place. So trying to be positive and maybe diversify what he does. Luckily he has lots of different experiences and skills so going to sit down later and try and think of something that would piggyback onto his current business.
Fingers crossed, hope everyone is ok.
Have a good weekend fellow DMP ers

After almost 10 months on the DMP I got a statement from Barclaycard yesterday that had interest back on the card, we haven't had interest charged since the start from anyone so I am surprised at this. It may be that as some posters have discussed that we have gone under the minimum payment barrier. Whatever I will draft a letter to them explaining the situation and see what can be done.
    Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35
    Now £27,470.20 :T
    57% of debts cleared:beer:

In the process of making full and final settlements, waiting to hear from some creditors - LLoyds and bank of Ireland. The money is from a third party.

But in the meantime, I am struggling with the budget, as my fuel home insurance ,childcare and utilities have all gone up.

I got £295 a year pay rise but this is wiped out by changes my pension contributions.

Can I redo my budget even though I (hopefully) will be clear of at least some of these debts soon? I am with Payplan.I will ask at Payplan but I want to be armed with some information first.

No mail from creditors as such but had a few automated letters to say my existing DD has been cancelled by the bank. :) I doubt i will get much mail until the payments days are missed, but im hoping will recive some mail saying they have accepted the terms from stepchange. First payment date is the 1st of may and may is the first month in while i haven't/wont have to struggle !!! ;) Good luck to everyone starting their DMPs also, hope they all go to plan !! :j

There is a post somewhere about Barclaycard and their rules. We don't have any debts with them but am sure someone stated they have set amounts where particular interest rates kick in.

HH may know but I will try and find the post for you.

    Edited to say found it:

Barclaycard have a system, if you can call it that of tiered interest rises.

Mine went from 0, to 6.9 to its current 12.9 in 12 months. M & s was worse 0 to 18.9 after the first 12 months.

MBNA and santander have been fine for 3 years (touch wood).

I would get rid of the store cards and overdraft, then if you can clear all that, then see where you are.

The thing is, with creditors, is that you never really know how they are going to play it until it happens. I know how bc work as I have a letter laying out the policy.

It may be worth sending eyeopener2 a message and asking about it.

I don't have experience with Payplan but when we were with CCCS/StepChange, you could ask for a review at any time, so am pretty sure Payplan would be the same.

Good luck with F&F offers :)
