That's possibly the worst boiler quote I've ever seen. Tell them to getifa.

I tried Googling "getifa" but I think you mean 'get off'

I would phone them asap. That price is scandalous.

I'm not sure which number to ring.
If I did ring British Gas would they even do anything? since I don't have a customer number and I didn't write the cheque.

I can see we need 3m of pipe for the feeder pipe for the header tank, but the other 2x3m doesn't seem necessary. Maybe I can find the number to ring them. I've only one working day left. We already have a flue hole so why need bricks?

Our old electric immersion hot water tank cycling doesn't have one of those big red thick jackets other people have (just polystyrene). Will it still be without a jacket?

The extra pipe will be because they are converting from a gravity hot water system to fully pumped and the bricks are because the exsisting boiler has a big square hole through the wall which needs to be turned into a small round one. They should stick a jacket on the cylinder although it's not energy efficient (I'd prefer to keep old one than paper thin new)

"getifa" is a Scottish expression. It means "get to f^^^". Usually augmented by yaweebassa giving the full phrase "getifayaweebassa" :)

You've got to put a stop to this nonsense by any possible means. This is the worst ripoff I've ever heard of. Have you told your dad the opinions from here?

I showed dad some adverts on Wednesday from the back pages of our local paper saying £2000 and another say £900 plus powerflush he had a look but he didn't think much of it - perhaps cos of our 3 previous plumbers, the last one in February 2010 started accusing dad of wasting his time "I didn't know you had a history" whatever that means.

I have yet to tell him of your opinions but have emailed our relatives of similar moneysavingexpert opinions https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2132243

Anyway I've managed to sneak in his room and get hold of the brochure (hope I don't get caught) and there is an invoice enquiries number and a cancellation number. I'll ring them. I think i saw on TV show if you threaten to leave they'll drop the price.

Why does it have to cost £245 to not be interested in a Green Deal Assessment?

OP: you have duplicate threads running on this topic. Perhaps the mods could merge them for sanity's sake.;)

Your father is not being charged for not having a GD assessment. Look at the section immediately above on the quote (you cut it off in your last post...see here 'System Reliability' and do the maths.).

There a literally hundreds of posts/threads on MSE about dodgy quotes (and not just from BG). Three quotes from recommended RGIs should sort out the wheat from the chaff.

Stories such as yours make my blood boil.

    I put in Google
    "getifa" slang "get to"
still can't find a webpage for it

    "getifa" "get to"
only decent result gets this page!

I see system reliability but I still don't get it.

Finding 'recommeneded' is the tricky part. Of our last 3 plumbers, 2 weren't recomended but were registered I think with gas safe logo (in yellow pages). The last one in Feb 2010 was recomended by Age UK but a bit iffy
but the last one in February 2010 started accusing dad of wasting his time "I didn't know you had a history" whatever that means

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I tried to ring both these number but both closed - despite saying for invoice enquiries it shuts at 9pm. Both say will next to open on Monday - which is when the fitters come round!

There is also a mobile number of our heating advisor that came on Wednesday who I can ask a question of the quote. I rang it and left a message questioning why I need over 9 metres of piping and about being charged £245 for not being interested in the Green Deal assessment.
    3m x 5 = 15m
    3m x 2 = 6m
    3m x 1 = 3m
    15+6+3=24metres of pipes!
I thought we'd just need 3 metres for the feeder pipe for the new header tank.

I remember our British Gas heating advisor said its not worth having a Green Deal assessment cos it would cost a £1000 to put in cavity wall insulation and it'd cost £245 just to have it assessed so it wouldn't be worth it so it was like he was saving us £245 but then ofcourse he charged us £245 so that doesn't make sense.
