I had gone to visit my Aunty in Taunton (first time I had been there), went out for the night and saw a handsome looking bloke in the pub. Went to a club & the chap was there with his mates, got chatting and arranged for him to call me, which he did.
He came to visit (I lived about 100 miles away) & I found out that he was only in Taunton as he was on a course nearby so was staying with his Mum and gone out with some old friends. Also 3 weeks after our initial meeting he was due to move to his new posting in the town where I lived.
17 wonderful years and two children later and it is still the only time I have been to Taunton!

I think there is a word for it when it seems more of a coincidence .....is it serendipity ?

Serendipity - the occurence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

A fortunate stroke of serendipity. I love that word :o

ohhh i am not the only person strange things happen too!!

A few years ago I went to centre parcs with my monsters and my parents...

was in the wave pool thingy with youngest and someone says hello!
looked round and there was a couple we knew from where we lived!!

another time, again at centre parcs, got chatting to a lady in next chalet, turned out she had been at same secondary school as me, and had been in my brothers class!

My darling Mum would always be calling me just as i was about to call her, we lost her nearly 2 years ago :( but she still does things!!

The day after her funeral, some fairy lights in the garden that hadnt worked for months,( and in fact she kept nagging at me to take off the lavender bush they were on) came on!!! and it hadnt even been a very sunny day to charge them!

Last year I was wanting to learn to crochet, and hunted in the craft cupboard for her crochet hooks, I couldnt find them! so gave up
next morning needed a safety pin, opened the sewing box, and there on the top was the bundle of crochet hooks!!

and then last week, on the 1st birthday of my neice, I went to let the cat out in the morning, and there on mums rockery - flowering is a small iris, when mum was in the hospice, it was in her room and had flowered - it shouldnt be flowering yet, as only flowers if forced to - and a few days before had been under snow!!!

I so believe she is keeping an eye on us!!
    :)

25 years ago my friend moved away to uni, when she finished she moved to a rented house in Huddersfield.

My husbands ex-partner and daughter moved from Leeds to Huddersfield 18 years later into the same property! I remember him reciting the address to me and me writing the area, town and postcode before he had finished!

My first car was XXX 835 R and 3 months later my friend bought a car XXX 836 R - same 3 letters at the start.

Went on holiday to Cumbria, parked next to a car in the car park which was again registered one number after ours - they came from Essex, we were from Herefordshire and the registration region was Derby!!!
  • At my grans funeral about 5 years ago, my husband noticed his auntie! We wondered what on earth she was doing there as they live about 200miles away and never thought they knew eachother.
Turns out his auntie (his mums brothers wife) is a member of my family (my mums cousin!) We were so shocked!!! We panicked first as we thought we were related:eek: That would have been a shocker!!!!

Also, yesterday I went to my local Tesco to buy some lunch. The bill came to £6.66 and the cashier starting freaking out:rotfl: She begged me to buy something else to take it over the amount!!!! I gave in and bought a scratchcard and won ten pounds!!!:D

I didnt think I had one but I was having a good chat with my Dad today and remembed something that happened last week (along with a few of his own)

Me and my partner got together on 6th June, and we wanted to set a wedding date so we said we'd do it on 6th June 2014 and save up, my Dad came round that day or the day after so I mentioned it and he said Oh thats when you and your mum got married (divorced) and I said that would be akward and he said didnt you know? I said no why? And he said well we got married on that date because thats when your Nan and grandad got married and your great nan got married on 6th June.

I was quite shocked but have yet to tell my Mum this keep forgetting :D

My Dad was having a conversation with his friend paul about 'bars' and Paul said that you need to stand in the middle of a room, not with your back to a wall as it shows confeidence and willing. My Dad asked paul to go into town with him on Sat but he said he had a blind date so my dad went to town by himself (still cant get rnd image of my dad alone in a bar in town lol) so hes standing in middle of a bar with his drink and who walks past? Paul. My dad wanted to go to a club but Paul wanted to go to the usal hang out place so he ended up in a smaller club.

This is wear he met his current wife on 6th Jan, exactly 10 years after his current wife's sister had met her husband in that bar on 6th Jan, on top of this her birthday was 11 days after my mothers (his ex wife ofc) and his birthday was 11 days after his new wifes ex husband.

Whilst I'm on relationships not sure if this really 'counts' but my ex stole my phone at the end of my relationship so I treated myself to a BB and posted my pin on facebook and thats how I ended up with my current OH who I am buying a house with and am pregnat with our 2nd child :-)

Edit: FYI pauls date stood him up thats why he ended up in town haha sorry forgot to add that bit and it basicly 'amazes' my dad as if he hadn't bumped into Paul he would of gone to a differnet place (and he also says he wouldn't of seen him if he was in his normal place of being against a wall/seated but its a small bar so think he was just trying to make the story better haha)

I really do believe lifes not random and were all on a script we just pull away from every so often but reality then just pulls us back again....

Have several times dreamt of people or friends not see for several years then BANG see them within a few days...

Have slowed the car cause I sensed a front facing speed camera coming up where theirs never been one before and guess what....the bloke next to me gets clocked ) and I might have been 2-3 mph over...possibly )

Have predicted the sex of loads of babies even someone having twins and correct! lol

Only last week was thinking of a secretary who used to work in my building nearly 25 years ago, didn't really know her nor her me. Guess whos stood 2 people back from me in M&S a day later??

Now if I could only see 6 balls and the numbers on a saturday night :T

Mind you I rarely buy a ticket. No point......on the day Im gonna win, THAT will be the day I buy one ( lucky dip )....and Im sure I will one day, just dont know when......:(

    Not smug...just odd!
  • This thread is great!

I lived in Bedfordshire but moved to the Midlands when I was 11. When I was about 25 I started working for a tiny company in London, and randomly found myself on the same team as a lad I went to primary school with and had lived a few doors away from. Weird coincidence. But not unheard of. The guy still lived in Bedfordshire (in the same house with his parents) and commuted into London each day.

It gets weirder though. I then moved back to the Midlands when I was about 30 and had my children so I decided to retrain as a teacher. A couple of years into my job there were interviews for the Head of another department, and when I walked into the staff room at break there was this guy! Not only had he retrained as a teacher the same year as me, after living in Bedfordshire his entire life, he had moved to the Midlands and done his PGCE at my local university at the same time as me - god knows how I never bumped into him there - and then settled in the area and had come on interview for a job at the school I worked at!

He didn't get the job, but we became FB friends and I know he got the next job he went for, which was clearly meant to be as he met his wife while working at that school.

I'm fascinated by birthday coincidences. Me and my two siblings were all born on the 10th of the month, the same as my Mum. My step-sister and I share a birthday but she is 10 years older. My son was probably conceived the day my grandad died and then was born on the same grandad's birthday.

I just remembered about this I saw the number 79 somewhere and later my Dad was reading the newspaper on most uncommon lottery numbers and right at top of the list was 7 & 9 and ever since I saw them I just had this serouisly strong gut feeling they were the next lottery numbers so I brought about 5 tickets with 7 & 9 in them...... 7 & 9 came out but didnt get a single number other then them two !!

Thinking of family dates, as I said previously my three children all have 8th Feb as a link.
My maternal aunt and my brother were born on the same day of the month.
My mother was born and her mother died on the same day of the month.
My son-in-law, next door neighbour's daughter, a very dear friend and three other aquaintances share the same day of the month.
3 members of my family were born and died in the same month
On five consecutive days - parents w/anniv, grandfathers birthday, my birthday, cousin's birthday, nieces birthday
June is free! (at the moment ;))
