phones with UMA/signal boost

Its rather a long time since this post but I thought I'd make a note in case someone like me stumbles here whilst also searching for UMA info.
I use UMA currently with good results. I am on Orange (EE) and use a Blackberry Torch. My guess for the reason why it is being discontinued by EE is because it is free! not because it doesn't work.
I have been looking to see if there is newer phone that is UMA and have found the Samsung Wave 3 S8600 which is listed as being so on the Samsung website. The new Blackberries are not as I looked at the Z10.
Any other info on the latest appreciated.0 -
Just thanking you for post regarding uma/signal boost capable phones.
Most helpful. Got S2 at moment ,the best mobile I have ever owned and find signal boost feature very helpful not only at home but everywhere .
Due to upgrade 2 handsets and having same probs finding info on UMA enabaled handsets.
On a mission so may post final decision.:rotfl:0 -
I'm in the process of trying to activate O2 Tu Go. If it works, then it could be a solution (provided you're an O2 Pay Monthly customer).
From what I gather, it's supposed to re-route calls over wifi if it can't use the normal network.
...I just don't have enough network signal to receive the activation text!1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

looking for GalaxyS2 orange brand0 -
First, Id read the o2 thread about Tu Go.....nasty and thats on their own website !!!! I dont think EE have a box yet unless its on trial. Certainly they have never mentioned it to me. I have Voda sure signal and it works v well, but it 'talks' to your phone via 3g. This means if your computers wifi is using signal and/or your downloading something, it can affect reception. Also it wont work at all if you're battery saving with 3g off. I make calls no problem, but many of my incoming calls go to voicemail. Actually, Voda costs about the same as orange for sim only contracts and if you say youre leaving due to bad reception, they give you sure signal for free.
Im told UMA is the bizz . My techie contact at orange simply cannot understand why so few phones have it. People in the States rave about it....but not Iphone users coz Iphone dont have UMA capability. Im buying a second hand blackberry just for home. But Im 'told' samsung galaxy ii has UMA. Check it out with samsung cust servs. Im setting my Voda Iphone to redirect calls to whatever uma phone I get, while at my daughters Devon home....absolutely no signal thanks to cliffs. Also, I have BT broadband, so I should be able to use the open reach 'public' wifi network anywhere in UK, so long as someone in town has BT wifi. The only bit I don't get with orange UMA is that it charges for data/text usage? Voda charge nothing as soon as I connect the Iphone to my wifi. I assume its because UMA doesnt use the internet but instead, uses the broadband landline to direct the signal to orange hq and it gets re broadcast from there.
Hope that helps

EE do a signal box which consumers can now enquire about.
More info on the business site- http://business.ee.co.uk/public-sector/products/coverage-solutions/signal-box
It seems the EE app (similar to O2 TU GO) has been dropped or delayed.0 -
I forgot to say that UMA apparently has one BIG benefit. If you use your mobile phone connecting to wifi while abroad, Im told the calls are charged at your UK local (ie contract) rate. That may be the reason why UMA is disliked by mobile companies ? Let us know0

Yes, if you read what's on website forums, you'd not want to buy anything.
For me... TuGo is free. It's not as amazing as I'd hoped for, but it has let me pick up voicemails when I just have a wifi signal. That's a good start - previously I wouldn't have known I had a missed call until I drove about 5 miles from home.
So, it provides some functionality and it's free. If I had to pay for it, I'd be expecting more functionality.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
