Archers Sleep Centre - BEWARE!

i just bought couple of wardrobes online from a company called ArchersSleepCentre. After opening the first package, i found the instructions which come with it are not at all self-explanatory and had to get a carpenter to fit it together. Even the professional carpenter took around 3 hours to put them together and he had to drill holes himself and as the holes which fits the hinges were not at all aligned!

Opening the second wardrobe we found half of the parts have corners chipped and even side panel which hold the think backs were broken so my carpenter had to use his glue/nails to fix them. I've done many DIY wardrobes myself before but this one was a nightmare!

I have sent a formal complaint to their head office with pictures of the chipped/broken parts. Since i have paid for the carpenter and had the first one built i didn't want to return the second one, so i asked them for compensation. I got a reply from them now saying they will refund £30 back to my card for all this horror i had with £280 wardrobe. My wardrobe looks second hand and i'm not happy with this silly money they are refunding to me. Do you think that's a fair compensation they are offering me? What are my rights here? As this is a bulky item and cannot keep the packaging rigid once you open, it's quite hard to get a replacement. I couldn't find contact details for their CEO so i can complain directly to him. :(

cheers for your thoughts!

  • I think you should have checked everything before you started assembly as its harder to send it back now! But regardless, if its broken you should make them replace it (unless the damaged parts aren't visible once assembled in which case you might prefer the discount) and as for the difficult assembly you could always get a quote from the carpenter and ask them to go halves. They can only say no!
