I recently switched from virgin to Sky, mainly because i wanted the 2tb box. I got offered sky hd with sports, 40mb broadband and weekend calls for £68.50 for 6month then £85 for the rest of the year.

So i agreed. Getting half price line rental for a year and a £16.50 discount off the tv for the first 6month.

I have paid my first bill and received my second bill, no £16.50 discount. They also promised all the sports channels but i don't get espn. I have the call recorded. Any ideas?

You need to call Sky and ask them about it.

ESPN is a standalone channel requiring a separate subscription -they will have promised only Sky sports channels, I'm afraid.

Listen again to the recording you made to ensure that your complaint is not a misunderstanding on your part. If you still feel that the offers have not been applied as told to you on the 'phone then you should wait until the "bad weather" clears(!!!) and ring Sky's customer service for clarification.

Do i have the right to refuse to pay?
No, but early cancellation might be possible if you can prove that they haven't provided the service they offered you.
  • Thanks for your help. I will cancel if i don't get my discount applied asap, let you know tomorrow.

I'm sick of big companies lying to me or making mistakes in there favor, its time wasting and stressful. Vodfone and EDF have broken there word before, there should be penalty's to protect us.

Hope you let them know you were recording the call.

Otherwise it cannot be used in a court of law.

THEY,however, will have recorded the call and made you aware they were doing it

WHY do you assume you have been LIED to or DONE?

Can't companies, like others, make errors?

If they are not aware of their error how are they meant to fix it

If the call was recorded and you didn't let them know about it you could be in quite a bit of trouble. Sky allows employees to choose whether or not they permit customers to record there calls.

Anyway, every Sky call is recorded by Sky. Call up and tell them what you were offered, ask them to go and listen to the call and give you a call back to confirm your order.

There is also the possibility that your discount will have been applied after your initial payment. Use the 'view my bill' in the Sky Active tab after pressing 'Services' on your remote - this shows you exactly what is added to your account (discounts included).
My user name is SkyInsider... I worked for Sky quite some time ago, also worked for Virgin Media and a few other tech companies as a consultant. All views are my own ;)
