Sky lied to me about discount.

I recently switched from virgin to Sky, mainly because i wanted the 2tb box. I got offered sky hd with sports, 40mb broadband and weekend calls for £68.50 for 6month then £85 for the rest of the year.

So i agreed. Getting half price line rental for a year and a £16.50 discount off the tv for the first 6month.

I have paid my first bill and received my second bill, no £16.50 discount. They also promised all the sports channels but i don't get espn. I have the call recorded. Any ideas?

What did they say when you called them to ask why you haven't been getting what you were told you would ?

ESPN is a stand alone package £10 with Sky sports or £13 without.

BTW The Sky 2 Gb box only has 1.5 Gb of personal storage and can only record one channel whist watching another, or two channels whilst watching a recorded programme, whereas the Virgin Tivo can record two whist watching a third and also has access to YouTube and Twitter, and doesn't slow down your home broadband.
.....and its just been bought by some guy called Malone who if I recall used to run the Cheers bar in Boston.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • There call center is down because of bad weather. Do i have the right to refuse to pay? I might change to virgin next year if they offer all the sports including ESPN

You have 'the right' to refuse to pay. In return for that, they will exercise their 'right' to eventually default you and subsequently ruin your credit record for 6 years.

Why do you assume that they lied to you? Isn't it more likely that there has been an oversight or misunderstanding which has resulted in the discount not being applied?

"We may share information with credit reference and fraud prevention agencies for use in credit decisions, and for fraud detection and prevention purposes"

No they don't, what utter nonsense.

Sky has no access to your credit rating.

Why not? Virginmedia default you for sneezing in the wrong direction.

Sorry, - I had just deleted my post that you quoted, - I never realised that Sky didn't use CRA's, but I have since seen that they have confirmed this on their own user forums.
  • They also did no credit check, you just need a debit card and address. What i think is all sky want is your money thats why they want me to pay one month in advance so they will never lose. If i break contract they will eventually take me to court.

You will probably find the £16.50 (edit: per month) will be refunded back to you after the 6 months is up.

That is generally the way half price offers works in terms of broadband/telephone packages, or at least they used to work like that when i sold it for BT :P.
