I used Flylady to motivate me to declutter, now I have enough bedding & towels etc but not too much so it falls out when anyone opens the airing cupboard door.
I work fulltime, often away from home , so I don't have a lot of energy or time to devote to dusting knick knacks. I wash every weekend, everything goes in the dryer and is folded to minimise ironing. Anyone wants to do any in between they know where we keep the washer and which buttons to press.
I have a "lady who does" for a few hours once a week, my treat...she irons, dusts and hoovers, cleans bathrooms. Whoever cooks cleans the kitchen I wipe down the worktops and shine the sink whenever I get the chance. It's a new kitchen, still shiney and the main way in for visitors. Dishwasher goes on when full and is emptied as soon as it finishes so there is no excuse for pots hanging around. Again there is a home for everything so always it looks tidy except when I am cooking (LOL), I really planned the space and it works well.
I subscribed to mail preference service so we don't get much junk mail, I always try to open it by the recycling bin and out it goes. I keep a small box for paperwork en route to the office, I work from home, my office in up 2 flights of stairs. We have an agreement about not leaving coats shoes etc lying around and it usually works. I always look around before I go to bed and move anything which makes the place look untidy.
I still have "hotspots" but I can tame them in minutes not hours I hate housework and used to spend every weekend running round like a headless chicken trying to make everything perfect.0 -
just joined flylady, hope it does me some good, I need a kick up the backside!
Saw this today and thought of some of you:
trying to clean the house while the kids are still growing

i should have added wash up straightaway after a meal, or fill the dishwasher
have a bowl of hot water in the sink when you are cooking so you can clean hands/pots as you go along
and after sunday lunch, meat bones in a pan to make stock, spare veg in containers in the fridge or make soup with it for tea or lunch the next day
not so much of a routine as a habit;)

I agree with that to an extent. Now mine are old enough - just, to appreciate their rooms more if they are tidy, and help with clearouts for the charity shop or wiping furniture! A tip from flylady that if you put a timer on and spend just 15 mins. tidying in a room you will be amazed what you can do.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

loving this thread although it has made me feel incredibly guilty about the lack of cleaning I do. One idea I have found really works for me is kind of like the 10 minute blitz but instead uses the ad breaks on TV. When you think about it the average 30 minute programme has 3 breaks in it (beg, middle and end) thats 9 mins where you are being sold to. I find I can do loads in those 3 mins like empty the dishwasher, run a load of junk upstairs, dust the lounge, etc etc.
Not exactly kim and aggie but works for me!0 -
This thread is brilliant.
I am now going to 'split' the cleaning into different days, so I only have to clean for about 15-20 mins at a time.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
Cleaning my room is just terrible, are house suffers with a lot of dust so after using mr sheen the dust re appears the next day it's that bad!, I get tired of the dust.0

If I'm finding it difficult to get going with the housework I sometimes write a checklist of things to do. Ticking off 'empty dishwasher' and 'wipe cupboard doors' is quite satisfying in its way and I feel all organised.0
