The GDORB list has an advance search function where you can filter installers by type of work, including those that specialise in the installation of double glazing.

    Hi Mike,

Do you have a link to the page that you mentioned ? I can;t seem to find it on the website.
    Thanks:o

I am just beginning the process of arranging to have an assessment etc and have just discovered that the companies will be doing a credit check on everyone who apply when arranging installation.
I am on a low wage , work 3 jobs and have two teenagers living with me My exhusband left us with £50,000 worth of debt and makes no contribution. I live in a house which is suffering greatly and the only way I could have afforded any improvements was through the Green Deal but now it looks that I can't have it as my I know my Credit Rating is dire.
Please does anyone have any suggestions that might help ?
    Thank you

Sorry I can't offer any suggestions Ssbjham, but you have my sympathy and support for what it's worth. Sometimes bureaucracy is ridiculous. Maybe try your local CAB, or even contact your MP/visit his or her surgery?

I haven't read all the threads but thought I would tell you what I know as of today. After a leaflet drop in our area recently re external wall insulation, we have just had a British Gas first visit and quote which is in the region of £9700.00. I have a large terraced house. I have been told that it is likely I will attract around £5000 of grants/funding from BG and the funds available through Green Deal etc. The remaining $4000 is can be paid back either through a green deal loan (subject to credit checks) at an interest rate of more than 6%.

Since my house is both cold and damp as well as needing a huge cosmetic makeover outside it seems an attractive as it seems bills will be lower and the house will certainly look better although I will lose some nice features :(

What I will not be doing if I can avoid it is taking out the loan partly because of the interest rate and also because I will probably move in the next 5 years and cannot imagine a buyer being thrilled by taking it over. I think I will either draw down my overpay from the mortgage and use that or cash in savings.

It is still a lot of dosh but if I don't do this I will still have to have the house scaffolded and pay people to render and paint it. That will not be a cheap thing either and apparently this cladding stuff will not need repainting in 25 years. So they say.

I think I am going to do it and we do know a neighbour is very happy with his which cost him around £8000 with no grants.

The Green Deal only requires you to have a credit score over 600 which is the Poor end of the scoring system. If you have no CCJ's or have not been bankrupt in the last 5 years I think you should get approved.

  • having had a leaflet through the door yesterday (21/1/15)Energy Care Group, offering grant aided solid external insulation, I am confused trying to validate ...is this grant still available or not? Is it going to be? and exactly where can I find out if I can get aid with the assessment cost, my husband is a pensioner and my income is not huge. The house is 1930 single wall ex council property surrounded by already clad (by the housing authority) houses which I know has proved beneficial, but the finance was not available to get this one done at the same time. We managed to finance double glazing and a new boiler out of the pension pot but cannot afford the cladding as well, though it desperately needs it. I would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction! :-)

I think you need to read of all this:
    https://www.gov.uk/green-deal-energy-saving-measures/overview

And then come back with any further questions.

To answer one though, no, there is no assistance with the GDAR £100-£150 fee upfront. Although, you get this back if you go through with the scheme.
  • Does anyone know the exact date yet in February 2015 that the Government is launching the next tranche of funding for Green Deal?:o

I'd have said just "no", but it was too short for the site.

She would be better off getting GDHIF as this will pay £4k and applications open again in February.

Do you know if there is a minimum requirement this time round ? is it at least 50% off your house that has to be soild wall insulated before you are eligible for the £4k ? or is there no minimum now and could do 30% ?
