I have read much of this thread but my question is: Living in an1870's house the windows are draughty and seem to be the best way of adding insulation to our home. Before my disability I was able to do work on the windows but that is now out of the question. Being disabled and therefore low income via benefits, would we be eligible for a grant to pay for d'glazing if assessed as beneficial? We don,t need a new boiler and the loft is lagged and boarded over.0

If you could answer the following questions I can help you, they may seem a bit unrelated but they are necessary.
Are your current Windows single or double glazed?
What are your external doors like?
From the age of the house you have solid walls?
How old is your boiler?
What benefits are you on?"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
I have recently been approached by Home Energy Lifestyle Management Systems about solar panels and external insulation for solid walls . This work is to be done using the Green Deal Finance. Does anybody know of this company or had dealings with them as I,m hearing some rumours that they are linked to some not very reputable firms.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you0 -

I have never heard of them, all approved green deal companies are listedhere, if they are not on that list they may be subcontracting to a company that is.
If that is the case ask them who and speak to the company they are sub contracting for so you are aware of what is going on and who is involved.
If they are not on that list and are not able to provide sufficient evidence/info about who they are sub-contracting through stay clear of them."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
My mum had a Green Deal assessment carried out by the local council last December and passed her details on to 2 Green Deal providers to get them to contact my mum to see what was needed (she definitely needs a new boiler) and take the process to the next stage. One of them has phoned her 3 times and written to her to say they will contact her soon to arrange to visit her - and that's as far as she's got! I've rung them a couple of times and they told me the same thing. I've also emailed them and they've ignored me.
Any ideas what we can do to speed up this process?
Thanks, Tracy0 -

Best and quickest thing to do is to go to a few different green deal installers, they will come out and arange everything for you.
This way is much quicker instead of going to a green deal provider."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Simply install a Boiler with a built in Flue Gas Recovery System and you'll be eligible for the upto £1600 cashback on GDHIF.
I was quoted £3.5-4.5k for a boiler with flue recovery system, then I would have been eligible for £1k back... still costing me a minimum of £2.5k... Still much more than the cost of a local fitter who fitted me a worcestershire bosch combi for £1600.0 -
Most quotes for new boilers seem to go off 'boiler swaps' - old boiler off wall and new boiler hung in it's place with minimal fuss.
What is the likely cost of having a solid fuel back boiler removed, along with hot water tank, and combi boiler put in the place of the old hot water tank? Keeping the existing radiators and pipework.0 -

If it is just a boiler swap, which it must be if he has quoted £1600 i can grantee you will be able to get a GDI to install Vaillant + Vaillant recoFlue for £2400 inc VAT and get the £1000 cashback so an end cost of £1400 so its works out cheaper and you are getting more for your money! Seems a no brainier!
Or a ideal logic code for £2000 so works out even cheaper"talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Is this scheme still open to new applicants?
The reason I ask is because the cashback website says (when clicking the "apply for cashback" button):Applications Closed
Applications for Green Deal Cashback are now closed. Please ensure work is completed and all valid vouchers are claimed by 30th September 2014 when the scheme ends.

Or is this something different and I'm looking at the wrong Green Deal scheme?0
