Ok. So being the charming girlf I am (lol), I figured I'd go to Tesco's at lunch time and get the stuff we needed for tonights dinner:

garlic flatbread
lettuce
cucumber
peppers
spring onions
cherry tomatoes
cheese
coleslaw
chicken

Total £14.49
(Tesco price match: I got £0.09 off my next shop! :p)

Why oh why OH WHY is veg/healthy stuff so much dearer than junk food?! If I'd spent £17 on choc and crisps I'd have come away with bags of stuff and a heck of a lot more than 9 items!!! You'd think someone should be encouraging us to eat more healthily!!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!

Rant over :D

£14.50 is alot just for that,

Maybe see if a greengrocer ( if you have 1 ) is any cheaper.

I have heard it somewhere before that junk food is cheaper than veg/healthy foods.

yikes! That is a lot to spend BUT, I am afraid to say, it was only that expensive because of where you chose to shop.

Healthier food is a lot cheaper than processed junk.
  • Gonna have to have a look out for a grocers near hand. Yes ok the salad stuffs will go further than just one meal but still :o

And as for my choice of shop, it was either Tesco's or M&S, so in theory it could've been a LOT dearer!!!

Dinner is at dinner time it's what certain types of people we won't mention :D laughingly call lunch, the meal you are referring to HeadAboveWater is tea :p

You've me completely baffled now! Maybe it's the part of the country I'm from! :o

'Tea' to me is a cuppa as opposed to a meal. Am I missing something?!?!? :rotfl:

  • Have a mate from glasgow and they call lunch 'dinner' and dinner 'tea'. So each time we talk about what each other is having for dinner is a bit fun :D

In the potteries your 4 meals a day are:

    Breakfast - Dinner - Tea - Supper

If you have breakfast, lunch and dinner you are considered quite posh ;)

No we drink tea here too.

And I used to give my children a packed lunch to take to school. Never heard anyone call it a packed dinner.
Maybe we are just common, I don't know.

I have this argument with my wife all the time.

She calls the evening meal "dinner" whereas I call the mid-day meal "dinner".

I do point out that how come at school they are called dinnerladies (including her mum) therefore I am right. She just points out that obviously she is right as she always is.

The only time I'd refer to 'lunch' as 'dinner' is on a Sunday if we're having the traditional spuds, meat and veg. But only if it's between the hours of 12 and 2pm :D

The difference is the packed 'lunch' will typically be sarnies or the like, but the school canteen would provide hot 'dinners' - if that makes sense!!!!
