I've posted this on the other thread but also thought I'd post it here......

I've started doing what I said I wouldn't do - google the HSG and get myself into a state.

I'm the type of person that needs to know the details of what will happen (I don't like not knowing) but then I scare myself. So I was wondering if any of you that have had a HSG would mind telling me what to expect.

The silly kind of things I'm thinking of are:
    • how long are you there for?
    • how long does the actual procedure take?
    • who does it? Is it a doctor or just the radiologist? Was it a man or a woman?
    • how many people are there? Is there also a nurse there?
    • did you take pain medication?
With regards to the pain I know it can be painful. Some people have found it's just uncomfortable and some people have said it's extremely painful. The stories of people screaming out in pain are a little scary. I don't have a high pain threshold so I'm a bit nervous about the pain. I guess it's one of those things where you just have to wait and see.

Fannyanna - Sorry I can't help, but hopefully someone will come along soon who can offer some advice/info

Hope everyone's okay and enjoying the weekend :)

Question - I bought a cbfm monitor after loving the trial one (which by the way was MUCH better in every way) but had to wait for sticks to arrive. So this morning it asked for a stick. The post hadn't arrived yet but I found a trial stick which must have fallen out of the pack. I tried this but it wouldn't recognise it.

So the sticks arrived and look identical apart from the colour (purple trial and all white new pack). I'm a little concerned that 1. I am too stupid to work 'the simplest easiest monitor in the world' or 2. It's broke - im thinking 1 is more likely.

    Any suggestions? X

Faith, I had trouble the first time I used my CBFM. Are you sure you've pushed it all the way accross as sometimes it needs to snap in that little bit further. Also you need to ensure that the stick is the right way up, ie the slanted tip should be away from you when you slide it in the monitor and the ridge on the cap should be on the bottom. I hope that makes sense.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

Fanny - Don't get yourself worked up. It is a very common procedure all women of all ages have it.

I was in the room for about an hour although they had a lot of difficulty trying to get the dye in. There were 2 nurses and the consultant performing it. Putting the catheter in was uncomfortable and I felt cramping whilst they injected the dye. The most painful bit was having to roll from side to side with all the equipment inside to shift the dye about. You almost certainly won't need to do that though - my uterus just wasn't playing ball. I didn't need or take any pain relief before or after and I drove home no problem.

I won't be rushing to have another one, but in comparison to childbirth (afterall, this is a TTC thread) it was a walk in the park. Infact, they don't compare at all!

    You'll be fine :)

I was there for an hour. They called me through. Asked me to give a urine sample and did a pg test. Then I had to change into a gown. My procedure took 50 mins but it was complicated. She said it usually takes 10 mins. There were 2 radiology nurses and they were so so lovely. They know its not pleasant and deal with it all the time. I took 2 feminax on way to hospital
Try not to worry xxxxx it's not nice but soon over

Unfortunately I'm cd1 becca, well spotted :). 15dpo for me would mean a bfp!

Had a bad shopping trip with my mum. I've been feeling on the verge of tears for a few days now due to pmt & my ear. But was ok shopping although everything was irritating me. Then my mum was going on about knitting a baby outfit for the pregnant friend we see each week& I was just about holding if together then she says I just want to find a knitting pattern. So I go over to look at kids craft stuff as ideas for my nieces Xmas presents etc. my mum is taking ages so I go over & say have you chosen yet, because I was starting to get really riled up & upset that I wanted to go home but was being delayed by this, and she said no sorry, what do you think about this one? To which I burst into tears & had to find my way out of a packed john Lewis..

So yeah really fun day I'm having! The only good thing is now hopefully she will stop talking about this person having a baby like she has been all the time recently & it's been driving me round the bend. I said please stop taking about anything baby related I don't want to hear it.

Fanny anna although I have no experience of the procedure I just wanted to say I'm exactly the same. I need to know all the minute details but scare myself by finding them out. Sometimes I wish the Internet was not around for medical stuff. I've looked up stuff like how is a filling done to how are blood tests done. I'm ridiculous!
