Hope everyone's enjoying the weather - I just hope it lasts as I have a whole weekend off :)

Not really any news here, still no sign of AF, but I have had few cramps this morning so think the witch is properly on her way.

    Hugs to everyone

I'm back from the docs! It went as well as it could really as it was the first appt and I was massively relieved that it was a lady just because then chances were they should at least know a little bit! :)

Anyway so I explained to her I have generally long but irregular cycles, but I can work out when I ovulate through temping and opks and thats how I got pregnant, but last month I dont think I ovulated at all, and basically wonder if I have pcos, or somethign is up etc

So she did mention my bmi and said therefore pcos is unlikely but, I explained to her its a genetic thing so it cant be that its my normal weight and she asked did I do much exercise and I said not anything excessive and only very recently have I started running, and she did agree that pcos is a 'whole gamut' of things as she called it, so its not particularly well defined but if they didnt see cysts on my ovaries then again its unlikely but not impossible. She said aslong as youre eating properly and not over doing it exercise wise, basically just do everything in moderation you should be fine. (although annoying she still wrote on the blood test form low bmi' grr, I think one problem is that because Im skinnier on my top half than the bottom, when Im sat behind a desk and no one can see my bum I probably do look pretty skinny! Maybe next time Ill go in hotpants lol!)

Then she pretty much said its very normal to have 'abnormal' textbook cycles, its very common to be irregular and I shouldnt really need to worry about that in itself, but that we should do the blood test at the start of my cycle and one at 7dpo - which she said I should just call up and ask for at 7dpo if I think I know when Ive ovulated.

I said to her I have read its normal not to ovulate on one or two cycles a year, and she said yes but thats not normal for you, so youre right to ask about it.

I said what should I do if next month though, Im not ovulating again should I just pick a random time and go for the 7dpo test and she said no, wait and try again the next cycle, but if for that month yet again Im not ovulating, then go back to the dr. Which makes sense. So she definitely trusted me in that I know my own body and wasnt making me go for tests for the sake of it. I could have potentially got the 7dpo done this cycle as Im pretty sure I havent ovulated yet but she said its prob best as I think this is weird cycle to just start it again afresh next time.

If that happens she gave me the name of another dr there to book the appt with as she said she is more of an expert in this area. So Im hoping that wont happen of course but I might try to get the appt to discuss the results with her.

In the first blood test as well as the usual blood tests she has asked for a thyroid test, iron test, b12, and a whole host of stuff, so I guess shes at least covering all areas. Of course now I will be massive paranoid when I have to wait for those to be done. Oh the joy of ttc.

She said she was sorry about the mmc and that at least we know I can get pregnant, so I should try not to worry too much but she seemed to understand why I was worried at least.

claire - I'm absolutely sure you know this already (although it sounds like maybe your dr doesn't) but you can definitely have PCOS with a normal or low bmi. My bmi's fine (well it was, before 2 months of comfort eating took their toll lol) and I've had pcos for years, even when I was about 9 stone (I'm 5'7", if that helps).

Having said that, it does sound as if she actually listened and took your worries seriously, sometimes that in itself is such a massive help.

Yes it was. Just to make you feel like youre not going mad, and Im very pleased she believed me when I said I knew I was ovulating and wasnt one of those 'stop doing the tests, relax and youll get pg' drs.

I did tell her that myself infact lol. And I said but I have got spots around neck/jaw, the irregular cycles and although the test at the time showed I had no cysts, who is to say I dont now - and thats when she said yes pcos is a whole range of things. So she wasnt necessarily completely ruling it out which is good - even if perhaps herself she doesnt think I have it.

Yeah I think it will take another 6-8 weeks just to get the test done as it will depend when this one finally finishes and how long the next one is. And if I dont ovulate next month it could be even bl&&dy longer!

Also Im just thinking now - she said they probably wouldnt investigate much more for another year - and I said Id been off the pill for almost 2 - I think in this area they make you wait til youve been trying for 3 years!! So I will keep quiet about the fact we stopped trying for a few months in between as 3 years is a hell of a long time. Just 12 months from now is bad enough!

Claire it may be that it is a year in your area but in most areas each time you conceive it resets the clock x

Claire16c - I'm glad the appointment went well, you were listened too and you have blood tests arranged. It's also good she gave you the name of the colleague who specialises in this area. It means you know who to book follow up appointments with.

My hubbie went to visit his GP yesterday to ask for an SA. He was put out when the doctor took advantage of his rare visit to also send him for blood tests for cholesterol due to his approaching 40. He's currently 37 so he had the hump, bless. :) He's getting it done next week and I'm more nervous of his results than I was about my blood tests.

Better hope his cholesterol comes back OK or you'll be racking your brain, like me, to think up new and interesting meals involving oily fish or tofu twice a week!

She didnt say anything about that just that they probably wouldnt investigate much else until 12 months from now when I mentioned about the pill (so I guess that would be the 3 year thing) so hopefully they will only look at sucessful pregnancies. Who knows I will pay to see some private if I have to. Having said that just did another google search and it says in my area you can be referred after 12 months of trying - and now I cant remember where I read the 3 year thing! Ahhh I know that was for IVF I think. So based on that, weve been trying 3/4 months already since the miscarriage.

Yep Ive just looked the dr up online and she has a ton of qualifications on gynae and reproductive medicine so Im sure it will take a while to get an appt with her but probably worth it to get the best answers.

Oh no. Thats the thing about seeing drs, you go in to ask about one thing, and come out with something else you hadnt even considered! Hopefully his levels will be fine. My Dad is slim and fairly fit, good diet etc but he had high levels for a bit, so he eats that benecol margarine stuff and apparently it actually works.
