Interesting. So my husband has an Iphone 4s on a T-Mobile contract bought from Affordable Mobiles.
When his contract expires he will have to stick with T-Mobile if he wants to continue using his iphone?
This has made me think about whether to purchase the Iphone 6 from a third party. Have seen a good deal with Vodafone but then I will be stuck with them.

No. If he wants it unlocked he puts in a request to T-Moble to unlock it and pays the fee.

Tmobile (EE) will only unlock your iphone if you purchased it from Tmobile (EE) and they charge £15 for it

I know this as I recently tried this myself, and Tmobile would not unlock my iphone4, as I bought if from a third party (smartphonestore)

Even though he did not buy it directly from T-Mobile??The above seems to suggest differently.

    No

He can pay the £20.42 to TM and get it unlocked for any network.

In most cases an iPhone from anyone but Apple will lock to the first network SIM put into it. CPW even say this on their pages.

Vodafone will unlock it free, see https://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/forms/unlock-code-request/ but you must have had the phone and contract a year for it to be free.

Considering that poster can't even get the price right do you really think you should pay too much attention to what he says?

And let me guess you own the site.

The iPhone CANNOT be unlocked by any IMEI type code, it can ONLY be unlocked by the network that unlocked it requesting the change on Apples server.

The only way a non network source can unlock the iPhone is getting an accomplice (or themselves) to enter the codes on the networks account with Apple. While unlikely to be found there's always a risk it could be detected and the phones re-locked.
