The Cheap Energy Club

Hi Martin, further to your email regarding the above, I have registered with the 'Cheap Energy Club' and provided all my details. However I am currently with Southern Electric for both Electricity & Gas on their Fixed Discount January 2014 General Domestic with Paperless Billing.

Your checker advises that there is no 'Early Exit Fee' however my lastest bills, received in early January 2013, state the following:-

Gas - Is there a cancellation fee? Before and including 1st Nov 2012 = £80.00 - After 1st Nov 2012 = £60.00
Electric - Is there a cancellation fee? Before and including 1st Nov 2012 = £80.00 - After 1st Nov 2012 = £60.00

I should be most grateful for further advise on this.

Oops another testing bug that was pointed out and not fixed! I'd go with your bills - there appear to still be a few teething problems with this Energy Club site.

I would go with what your supplier has informed you. They probably know their own terms better than anyone else :)

  • Hi,

i have just joined the Cheap Energy Club and done a comparison, but the current price quoted for my energy usage is incorrect. We are with OVO, tariff is New energy fixed and the unit price is 9.42ppkwh, but i can't get to see what the price is used in the comparison.

How do you know current quoted price is wrong if you can't see it?

In answer to your questions, yes I'm sure MSE earn money out of this. They earn money out of every link you click on (you may need to accept the deal) - unless you click one of the specific links that they don't earn money on.

How do you think this site makes money ... and how do you think Martin managed to sell the site for £87m?

There's a link down the bottom to explain more about how the site is financed.

Regarding cashback - yes there is still the £30 cashback on offer if you end up switching.

As explained on the site, you do not pay any extra for switching via this site compared to going direct ... but you won't get the £30 cashback if you go direct to a supplier.

Do the calculations take account of exit penalties?
If so then is the assumption that prices will not change for the duration of the next penalty period?
    How can this work?

I've registered too but it shows my tariff with Scottish Power - Online Fixed Priced Energy April 2014 as having a £51 exit fee which it doesn't. I'd save £30 by switching to Spark.

Unable to register with this new site - anyone else having the same problem. Bit glitchy!

I've just registered too and the EDF Blue +price promise September 2013 comes up saying there's a £70 exit penalty when in fact there is none at all.

Exit fees seems to be the buggy part of the new application so far.
