The Sub Prime Credit Thread - Part VI

Just checked, only offered a £2,000 limit. Hrumph. Guess I won't be able to stooze much at all

Still room for improvement in my credit rating then!
If you don't want the AMEX mate I'll give it a good home
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
Wow this thread was a fair few pages back !
Just wondering if anyone is about to offer a bit of insight ....
1 x Vanquis - Credit limit £3000
1 x Capital one - Credit limit £950
1 x Aqua - Credit limit £2050
1 x Aqua rate reducing card - Credit limit £1250
1 x Next account - Credit limit £5000 (no idea why its this much!)
1 x Natwest current Account with £300 overdraft and purple card.
Only nasty on my credit file is my CCJ which drops off in September. Settled and was for £279
Total outstanding debt is around 25% as just paid for my holiday!
So my question is ..... What do I do come September when the CCJ falls off ? Just randomly apply for any credit card and hope they accept me so I can close down all the subprime ones ? Or do I pay of the subprime ones now and start closing them ?
Ideally I would like to be left in a position with 2 cards, a visa and mastercard with total limit of about 10 grand. That is more than ample for anything I might want to do!
Also - an old default was for Barclaycard. This was over 6 years ago now as no longer on credit report. Am i blacklisted from ever applying to Barclaycard again ? Or after 6 years would they take me back ?0 -
Have you tried the Nationwide soft search of late and see how they would see you.0
-
Yeah, they dont like me/or my CCJ.
Have tried a couple of times and only ever get offered the £500 at 19.9 which i've read is a decline pretty much.
Maybe once the CCJ drops off it might alter

Yeah give it a go once the CCJ drops.
Nationwide seem to be average to on the soft side with their credit cards so if they are only offering £500/19.9 it'll pretty much be a no elsewhere too.
Have you made any applications for credit in the last six months?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

I opened the Natwest account up in April, so I only have that search, but even that search should drop off again or almost by the time i apply elsewhere.
I did have a step account beforehand although know what makes no difference with Natwest.
I did the application online and it automatically asked if I would like the £300 overdraft. It asked if I wanted a credit card and I said yes, but the computer said no
Do you think I should start shutting some of the other accounts down so I am ready and waiting .... or just leave stuff as it is, and pay off a bit more ?0 -
Got a Vanquis card last year (balance £900/ limit £1000), and have just been accepted for a Capital One Balance Transfer card to move that balance on to - 0% until Feb 2014! Bonus!
However, then realised Barclaycard are doing a "Platinum balance transfer for 18 months" card which I think I may be eligible for as have no CCJs and no missed/late payments in last 12 months. I do have defaults in 2011 though (quite recent) so perhaps not...I suppose I can always apply for the BC when the Capital One 0% rate expires?0 -
Hi my husband applied for a Luma card, and received the credit agreement through the post to sign, does this mean he's been accepted or could they still decline him? Thanks!0

Hello,
I don't know if anybody can help me. I got myself into finanical trouble and have had a CCCS plan for a couple of years now.
I am going abroad with my son soon and we will need a hire car as we are staying in the middle of nowhere. I have just been looking at various sites, most say you need a credit card to pay a deposit and some will allow you to pay a cash deposit but will probably conduct a credit check (and also, will not accept prepay cards, debit cards etc).
Since being on the plan I haven't missed any of the payments - how do you think I will fair if I was checked? I do have 2x 3 year old CCJs on there too (I tried looking at noodle but as I don't have any credit or debit cards I had no details to enter to verify my details).
I wondered if it may be worth trying to get a credit card just for this purpose? But I suppose the chances of this too is very slim?
My son and I have been through a rough time this year, I just wanted him to have a fab holiday to make it up to him...and even this seems to be being stressful now aaarrrggghhh.
Can anybody offer any advice? Thanks xx0 -
Not so lucky - I got it from a family death, a close member and it took it out of us having too look after them at the end...hence why I thought it would be nice to do something for my son, so something good came out of it.
