file handlers first call was 1.00pm yesterday, he didnt realised it had a recent service so i faxed over to him. Second call 5.00pm , i said no and said i would email the reasons for my offer decline that evening , i told him the price i was looking for and the reasons, explained i would let financial ombudsman make independant decision if final offer not what i feel fair. Third and final call 12.00pm today

nor me - but i wanted to try -for all the doubters out there i will happily send proof to a trusted member on here - bizarely they issue a cheque with each offer , i have got the first cheque today for £400 - they deducted the excess, so will get two more - i will happily scan these (they show settlement) and send copy to peeps if only to give hope to peeps to go for it :)

and, given the FOS expect them to make a reasonable offer immediately rather trying it on with a low ball offer and increasing it if the punter complains then, if you CBA, you could stick in a complaint about your treatment.

Your individual complaint won't have much effect but if lots complain then maybe (eventually) the insurance companies will start treating punters fairly rather than trying it on.

Going from £1000 to £1100 might well be negotiation, going from £600 to £1100 is a deliberately low "try it on" starting point

So their three offers were basically as I explained in my post of 28 with their final offer being 10% more than I suggested

Which, given your inside knowledge of the industry, is what I would have expected.

The problem arises when people who don't have helpful and knowledgeable people like you to advise them are fooled into taking a low ball offer because they harbour the quaint old fashioned notion that their insurer is going to play fair.

Notable that the vast majority of posters on this thread were suggesting a value of about half what was actually agreed

Certainly shoots Geforce's opinion down in flames dosn't it! Punto's hold their price quite well (depending on their mileage/condition etc).

dacouch you were actually very acurate - i believed my sons car was good/average taking its mileage and age into account and thought i would try my hardest - tbh i thought i would be lucky to get a grand so i am more than happy with outcome. But i knew it was worth more than the 600 figure, thanks for everyones input on this anyway and hopefully people will get what their cars are worth :)
