Because, based on what you have already posted, what is the point in supplying readings from a meter that is clearly faulty???

Elsewhere, you have said you have been having issues with FU for 7 months? Why?
If you follow the advice I have given, you can go to the ombudsman after 2 months.

We've had problems from the start, because apparently British gas (who we was with before) gave them the wrong meter readings for the electric, it wasn't until 3 months down the line they suddenly charged us £600 then the next month £800, it then took 2 months to sort that out and get us a re-fund. They told us it wasn;t their fault, as they were only going by what British gas told them (even though we gave them a different, and correct reading when we moved in). That's 5 months already, then the past 2 months we've been trying to sort this whole thing about a broken (we think) meter.

It wasn't until i made this thread, that i realised (and checked) to find the red light was flashing more when everything was switched off. As much as i've told them what's happening, they either don't reply and when they do it's 'sorry for your inconvenience, you need to send us a weeks worth of metre readings before we will investigate'

And yes, it's utterly stupid, as you said, what's the point in sending metre readings when it's not even working properly?

I know, as I've told them for months, that we're not using more electric than we ever did, I'm strict on money saving, and unplugging things etc when not in use, so i know my electric wouldn't have nearly tripped, yet they tell me it must be because I'm leaving things on, when I've told them at least 5 TIMES!!! that I'm not.

The more i talk to them and the more they fob me off with stupid things, the more annoyed I'm getting, as we're looking to move soon, and i want everything sorted by the time i move!

Edit- i'm waiting for the last reply from them, after i've explained in detail about the metre and the flashing light, if they still don't send anyone out, or tell me i must be correct in the metre being broken, then i will take further action

Edit again- Logged in and it's telling me we're with them now, but when i got to put in a metre reading it tells me they're still processing the one from yestserday, so i can't put another in... ignoring the fact it's stupid anyway, how can i put metre readings in daily like they tell me i have to, if the website doesn't even let me?

  • So another update:

Got a reply from them, ignoring my whole situation with the metre flashing when everything is off.

Their reply 'You should see a red light flashing, it will pulse the more energy that is used'

Told them i've had enough, no-one seems to be taking this seriously, or they're just down right ignoring what i've told/asked them and that i'm putting in a formal complaint.

Step away from the computer and either discuss this by telephone with them and if you still have no joy, then put your complaint in writing to them (and I mean a letter sent recorded delivery, not an email), head the letter Complaint, and explain clearly and concisely what your complaint is and what your preferred outcome would be.
  • So, we turned the mains switch off last night for 3 hours, checked back after 3 hours and it had used 2 units.

Spoke to FU (and waiting for them to ring again, to tell me i'm wrong) and they're sending an engineer to put in a 'check metre' (don't know what that is) and they will find out if our metre is faulty.

  • So, i'm ever more angery than every.

Company won't send anyone out and is telling us that the metre is fine, even though it's not.

Told us we have to get an independent electrician out, which our landlord won't do unless the gas/electric company tell them something is wrong, which they wont.

    I am so fuming

The meter is the local distributers responsibiltys, not FUs, cant they just pass on the complaint direct to them. I cant understand why that simple task is beyond them, misterbarlow wont be the only meter fitter finding the little Ampy meter faulty. It will be a known fault by now in the industry. That meter is the most common meter in my area in South Yorks

We've got one of those meters. Had it installed about 8 years ago.
