Could you not go full-time with that fag smuggling business you were doing a few weeks ago? :rotfl:

I don't know anyone who smokes. I'd sell them to my son but a) not speaking to him AND b) he has no money

LOL, yes he knows! Unfortunately he is a seventy year old man who has no regard for political correctness and puts my stroppiness down to PMT or hormones!

He also knows he has upset me this morning cos he offered to buy me chocolate at lunchtime. We are at stalemate at the moment.

Plus he asks me every week if I am staying and if I have a day off he rings to see if I really am at hom!:p

You do realise that comments such as this amount to sexual discrimination. Take advice on this, I wouldnt tolerate this and why should you leave a job cos your manager is not able to manage within the confines of the law? You saty your confidence is at rock bottom- whos wouldnlt be wioth comments like this!

I walked out of my job a few weeks back , applied for something perm the next day and got the job- offered a job in a better area , with significantly better money. there was no way I would have been able to search for another job without leaving, I was leaving the house at 6.30am and not returning till 9pm most nights and I was thoroughly shattered and the last thng i felt like doing was getting my CV circulated. And before any of you ask- we dont have any work to do as yet, which is why im here :p

So next time tell him no, and see what he says.

From the sound of it, he is at least aware of the effect he has on your world. So it may be time to stop placating and time to start affecting his world.

I think I need some assertiveness lessons. I hate upsetting people and avoid confrontion like the plague. Trouble is when you stand up for yourself and sorry to generalise here but men bossess tend to think you are aggressive rather than assertive.

I'm a bit similar to a lot of you. Did a teaching qualification, hated my "mentor", didn't like the job much either. What did I learn? That I didn't really want to teach!

Got a new job now, from an original temp position (remember if you like your temp place it can often turn permanent), and love it.

My confidence took such a battering it was untrue. Its good in a way, you see the bad side of life and you know never to go back.

I have also done the 'unthinkable' and to escape a bullying control freak manager, I turned down my fairly well paid job in the new structure and am being made redundant this Friday.

The relief is unbelievable, but I don't think I would ever have realised I had the strength to do it.

Go with what you know in your own mind. Think of your health - I didn't and became a mess.

I'm seeing a union lead officer in about 45 minutes and he will decide if I have a case to sue the !!! off my employer........

It is scary....but I know in my heart it is right......

It is generalising - female bosses make exactly the same assertion. But it's not what they believe - they call you "aggressive" to make you back down.

But I'm not suggesting a big leap - just when he asks if you're leaving, you don't lie.

The boss I walked out on was a woman who sounds just like this. Total petty nit picking. You're not in St Helens are you?:D

No this was in Hertfordshire. To call her a cow would be bad mouthing cows every where!

I think part of it was that she was used to having brain dead people working for her and this was my first job after uni and I think she was worried I was smarter than her so she put me down at every chance. Making digs like "have you put on weight?" I am a size 12 and in any case it is none of her business!

Still I used to laugh as she failed all ther ACCA exams even after I spent hours one day explaining simultaneous equations.

Ooohh just seen a job on https://www.jobsite.co.uk that would suit me down to the ground.. Implementing financial software. Massive salary - way out of my league but I might write to them and give them my CV anyway, see if they are prepared to take a punt on me.

Working from home, with laptop, car etc............ Oooooh er.

Keep your chin up and start looking for a new job - life is just too short to spend 8 hours a day doing something which makes you miserable.

    Good luck.

Absolutely agree with this quote 100%

I started working for my current employer a little over 6 months ago and although it's well paid I hate it and I can feel my positive energy slowly being drained from me everytime I have to step foot in the office. The staff in my office are negative, inflexible and rude and quite frankly, I don't want to work with people like that so I went and found a new job which starts in a few weeks... :D

So I say if you don't enjoy your job, get out as quickly as possible. If you're determined you'll find something ...

Websites you could try are www.jobsite.co.uk or www.monster.co.uk

NB: I posted this earlier but can't see it anywhere ..
