Want to quit my job!

I am having a bad day job wise. When I lost my job last year whilst on maternity leave, I had to accept the first job I was offered, and I am still here a year on.
Officially I am a financial controller, in reality I am just an admin person who is supposed to be in charge of finances. As my boss is a paranoid control freak and controls my every move, I am constantly frustrated and also my confidence is taking a nosedive because of the constant checking and rechecking of my work that I have to do.
Due to the unstable nature of the job situation both me and OH last year, I have been too scared to move, in fact I am not even sure finance is the job for me anymore!
I have just had a situation with my boss, which to be quite frank, if I could reverse the freelander we have just bought (and I am not yet used to driving it) I would have just gone.
I know the sensible thing would be for me to look for another job, but I am so fed up I am thinking of going and temping somewhere, anywhere!!!!

I am also an accountant and had a job like this a few years ago (You're not in the St Helens area are you?). I started to look for a new job within six weeks of starting and after ten weeks I just arrived one morning wrote a two line resignation and went home.:T I had a new job within two weeks. Later found out I was the fourth person to start and finish in the job in the last year:eek:   :eek:0

LOL, I am in the midlands, and I am person No 6, and that includes his wife!
I am so contemplating just going home tonight, writing a letter of resignation and going round the agencys tomorrow.
I know what the sensible thing is, stay here and look for another job, but I don't think I can. I really don't! If I stay here I think I will lose it, and as long as I am here I think looking for a job will be the last I do.Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

As someone who gave up a very good career with salary, pension, bupa etc etc to do something for myself, frivolous in some eyes, downright stupid in the eyes of others, I can only say go with your heart!
If you feel that it is right to leave, do so. You will then get out there and find something better.
That is my experience and one that I have never looked back on.
Good luck, whatever you choose to do xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
As I drove home after leaving my resignation on the bosses desk I called Mrs LA and told her. Her comment was 'thank god for that'0

I know how you feel. My last boss was very similar, she was a absolute control freak.
She would insist on checking everything I did and pick stupid faults, like I would have used a different colour to highlight something. Really petty stuff.
Have you though about using your lunch break to speak to agencies? I was glad I waited as I relished resigning and telling her about my fab new job, that had a huge payrise and better conditions (I omitted the part about having to work and extra 2 1/2 hours a week).
Talk to some agencies at lunchtime and see what they say. Best of luck!Debt Free - done

I usually do go with my heart, but the shock of losing my job last year the way I did plus the problems that came with it have really made me extremely wary.. If I was to follow my heart, I think I would pick up my bag and go now. I could even get the car out if I tried.:rotfl:
I think I will probably go home though and not come back, Will keep you posted.:oQuality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Can't really talk at lunch - share my office with the boss and can't get a reception outside. I will talk to some agencies though.. I have been paid up to the end of April and have allocated all my money for the month, so if I could get temping work I should be okay. I am also doing some freelance work so I might even get a chance to finish it?Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

Me too (or should say hated - finished last night). And no, I don't have anything definite lined up.
Have just registered with an agency and they should find me some temping from next week.
Have also just applied for two permanent jobs - one part time - one full time -basically anything to get me over the next few months - until house is sold.
After that, you know what, I've had enough. I'm with Hypno - I'm going to follow my heart, do something completely different and work for myself.
I've had my own business in the past and I love working for myself. I used to work 60 or 70 hours a week sometimes, but because it was my business I loved it - it was more like a hobby than work.
Keep your chin up and start looking for a new job - life is just too short to spend 8 hours a day doing something which makes you miserable.
Good luck.0 -
At another place I worked one of my predecessors as accountant went home one night and left a note on the outside of the MD's door which read. 'F**K OFF YOU BALDY TW@T'. He didn't come back.0
