I think she means - ringing up the merc and asking either to confirm or cancel your room previously booked and see if it pops up on their system. If it does - don't go through with it!

He has shown them booking confirmation and asked for a room but they want £110 up front.

I realise that, however if he could show he has paid, then hotel has an obligation to him. If they were full, they should have found an alternative hotel at similar standard and sort out the cost.

It does happen occasionally in hotels, thankfully not too often, ( I work in hotel management) bit of a problem if the hotel is full, but not the guest's fault that the fax or email went astray.

hope you get/got the £30 back now OP.

    Hi

When we have booked through a third party ( e.g Hotelstayuk /

    Laterooms / booking.com etc)

I always make a point now of phoning the said hotel a couple of

days before we travel, just to confirm they have received the

booking, as something similar happened to us a couple of years ago!

It was very distressing at the time, particularly as it was for a stay

    over New Year

Hope you have a lovely weekend, and at least if you have checked,

and there is a problem, you have time to sort it out before you

    travel.:)
