Not sure if it has changed recently, or varies between hotels, but we used to charge the card upon arrival.
Oh maybe they do, we use them quite alot and i was sure they don't charge us until we check out, but then again my husband always pays. Apologise OP miduck is most probably correct. Maybe a B&B or guesthouse then. Keep all reciepts and makesure you get reimbursed from Hotel Stay.0 -

Got an update:
They have charged my card £30 and they said they will ask the on duty manager in the morning to call HotelstayUK and a get the confirmation sent to them as they have no confirmation, but they have put me a room now, cause apparently someone's canceled, but im £30 out of pocket! Great0 -

At least you have a warm bed for the night, you might not be able to eat until the weekend! Do they give complimentry biscuits? Hope you get is sorted in the morning.
Oh and i would also try for reimbursement on any calls you have maybe had to make to get this sorted (if any).0 -
Maybe phoning them and trying to cancel your room might not be a bad idea, don't give your name just booking ref.0

I think she means - ringing up the merc and asking either to confirm or cancel your room previously booked and see if it pops up on their system. They say they can't find your booking...if you phone to cancel they might look harder. Try ringing the Mercure UK number you might get some joy with them, As another poster pointed out the booking might of gone to your hotel by either email and fax and either lost of deleted without being actioned, the main booking office might actually have your booking on their system....In fact forget trying to cancel (very silly immature idea lol) Just try ringing the main number.0
