T-Mobile -

Options
You know, sometimes you do things right and you regret it !!!

I had a T-mobile contract for 2 years..which I gave notice to quit in December, so that I gave them a month's notice.. (This is thanks to reading your posts on the matter...) I also requested the unlock code for my phone - I thought I would do it right instead of going to someone on the street... This was charged for and the lady on the phone told me that they would send me the unlock codes by letter and also details on how to use it etc etc ... I also asked her about the PAC code and she said that would also be sent out to me..

Meanwhile, I never heard anything so I phoned T-mobile again, asking about the unlock code as I wanted to go on the same network as my son... and I was also asked what would be happening with the phone and I said I would mostly go onto payg as I have such a low usage... blah blah blah but I was awaiting my son coming back from abroad.. so they said they would be in touch.

I then got a text on the 8 January, saying that they were contacting the company to get the unlock codes.. I waited again for a while and got back in touch... I also again asked about the pac codes and they said for me to request it the last day of my contract.. I was still waiting for my unlock code which I was assured would be with me before the end of January.. So I phoned the last day of my contract (actually it was after midnight) and I saw that my phone was on PAYG. I phoned them up and asked why, and they said I had requested it.. I said I hadn't ... I said that I didn't know which network I was going with and if I was staying with T-mobile, I wouldn't need an unlock code !!! so I said I wasn't paying for PAYG. So they gave me the pack code.. (25th January) I phoned again today as I now have a letter saying that I only requested the pac code then so the contract will run for another 30 days.. I was furious, so I phoned them this morning and the gentleman assured me that I would not be charged for the extra 30 days but I was due £9.50.. I asked why, and he said for the payg... I insisted that I wasn't paying for that as I didn't want it and the balance was going down by £1 every time I phoned them (although it says 25p when you phone customer services) .. and he said they would give me credit on the PAYG and I refused as I didn't want to be with T-mobile any longer.. so he said that he would cancel the £9.50 charge but I wouldn't be able to take the number with me !!!! and I still don't have the unlock codes although he did say he would send them on once they get them...

Can they really stop me taking this number with me once I receive the unlock codes ????

Sorry about the rant...

Rubbish. They had to issue the PAC there and then.
This is their common practice to try robing leaving customers.
BEWARE T-Mobile early termination fee when useing pac code...

Can my mobile provider refuse to give me a PAC?

    Hi Grumbler,

    Thanks for your prompt reply.

They had already given me the pac code in the letter today, that states that the contract has another 30 days to run... but when I phoned him to argue about it and he finally agreed to remove the 9.50 charge against my account for the payg, he said that the account was now closed and that I wouldn't be able to take the number with me..

That's what finally got to me.. the fact that I had asked for the pac code in plenty of time and now they are saying that the number can no longer be used once I change to another network...

Should I just wait until I get the unlock codes (if ever) and then use the pac code then and hope for the best ?

If the account is closed you can't use the PAC. You have lost your number already.

    Hi Grumbler,

I just went through and checked my phone... I can still use it as I have about £5+ credit on it and I was able to phone out with it.. and I received some texts so does that mean I have still lost the number ?????

Thanks very, very much for your help here ... It is much appreciated...

No, this means that your account is still active and you can port the number out.

I think you need to get a payg sim from another network and use the pac code asap to try and beat the process before it gets shut down.
I agree with Grumbler if it gets shut off you will lose the number
It's not just about the money

I am still waiting for them to send me the unlock codes for the phone... Could I transfer it to an old phone?

    Thanks to both of you....

You need an active sim from another network ..pref payg so no contract involved and then port it to another network when you sort out a contract
It's not just about the money
  • Thanks, I'll do that...

    Your advice is much appreciated...

    Cheers

If you've been transferred to PAYG, this would retain your existing number so as you've not confirmed this is the case, have you checked it?
