If you've been transferred to PAYG, this would retain your existing number so as you've not confirmed this is the case, have you checked it?
That's what they put me on once my contract ended on 25th Jan.. and it is definitely payg on the phone.. because it tells me that when I phoned customer services ..
When I phoned my son later on today, he said my usual number showed up...

I think the risk is if they try to claw the £9.50 back that they refunded to you by stopping the phone usage.
They might well just leave things as they stand and let the credit be used up as not worth the hassle etc but not worth the risk if you need to protect your number.It's not just about the money0
